Earlier this week we got a first look at J. Scott Campbell's variant cover to AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #688. We know that Spidey will be facing the Lizard once again and today, Marvel has released a first look at the interiors of the issue.

Marvel is proud to present your first look at Amazing Spider-Man #688, kicking off “No Turning Back” this June! Someone has tampered with the grave of Billy Connors and all signs point to the Lizard! But Spidey won’t be alone in his hunt for Curt Connors, because Morbius the Living Vampire is hot on his trail! Can Spidey handle both of these monsters before it turns into an all-out brawl? The superstar creative team of Dan Slott and Giuseppe Camuncoli bring you high stakes action and drama like no other as the celebration of Spider-Man’s 50 Anniversary continues in Amazing Spider-Man #688, swinging into comic shops everywhere, the Marvel Comics app and the Marvel Digital Comics Shop this June.

OH GOD! SPIDEY!!!! (whispering) noooooo............

Looks badass!

It looks good, the art looks really clean. I find it interesting that Spidey has that harpoon knife in the first few panels with the lizard and stabs him in the shoulder with it, but then he also has it in the panels with Michael Morbius. Maybe it has something to do with both the Lizard and Morbius's blood being mutated and Spiderman trying to get samples to cure them with Horizon labs tech. Just a thought.

this is gonna be my first Amazing Spider-man issue! :D

i hope this series is great from here on out. i dropped Avenging Spider-man and moved onto this . i hope this new arc doesn't require any back reading though.

does anyone know if it would be ok for me to start reading from this point????

#8 Posted by deadpool25mm (575 posts) - - Show Bio

@zackattack529: I started reading Amazing Spiderman from Ends of the Earth which was 5 issues ago and didnt need any back reading to do,some things get explained again anyway. So i think you can, i dont see any problem.

All of Dan's arcs have started of pretty friendly to new readers making it easy to dive in. but for anyone who wants to read all of Dan's run you can find it in these collections.

Art looks sick. I never thought it would be this hard to trade wait for this but it is. Have every hardback that is out right now. In the end it will be worth it but I'll be damn if Dan Slott tempts me with every story arc he does.

Ends of the Earth has been disappointing to me, hopefully this will make up for it, while not being a cash-in for the movie coming out

Morbius YES, I love that character, ever since he appeared in TAS from the 90s. "I long for plasma," great stuff!

No he shouldn't. Ramos or Caselli should be.

Art looks SWEET!

#30 Posted by spiderman20991992 (126 posts) - - Show Bio

@NXH:

Caselli's art is pretty good, but ramos' makes me cringe. his arts fits a newspaper strip better.

From the looks of the picture, though, Morbius is the one with the knife, though. Looks like he's dropping it. And in the first bit, he seems to be pulling the knife out of a cache of what looks to be a pile of the things. So... whatever that means...

#33 Posted by SexualLobster (995 posts) - - Show Bio

Spider-man being vicious..? I like it.

#34 Posted by RedheadedAtrocitus (6885 posts) - - Show Bio

They should have an even more rare variant cover of that same cover...except have it be Rhys Ifans biting down on Spidey's neck. And is that Morbius?

Really excited for this.

@BlackArmor: looooool (Shaaaaaaannnkkkk!!!)

#39 Posted by NXH (1031 posts) - - Show Bio

@spiderman20991992: I'm sorry. I disagree. Ramos is far more superior than a newspaper comic strip artist. Only because he is one of my favourite artists (as well as Caselli). But everyone has their different tastes in art. But in my opinion, Camuncoli does nothing for me.

I pray to god that this jumping on point enables me to have a basic understanding of Spiderman and Lizard.=D
