The world knows Richard Wentworth as a decorated war hero and the son of a wealthy industrialist – but only a few confidants know the truth. As New York City slides into violence and despair, Wentworth has transformed himself into a force of justice as The Spider! With only his wits, his technology, and his pistols to aid him, he fights a one-man war against crime, but when a mysterious new villain threatens the city with an unspeakable horror, it may be more than even The Spider can handle. How far will a sane man go to restore order to an insane world?

No, he's 30 odd years older than SM

@spiderbat87: The character is older, but The Spider's current look is not. The cape and mask is definitely Spiderman influenced and the lasers from his guns looks like Spiderman's web.

What, just because he has a web design? Spiderman did not invent that nor dose the mask look anything like Spideys and he doesn't even have a cloak

@spiderbat87: Stan Lee and Jack Kirby did start the web design costume which looks to have inspired the current Spider creators, even The Spider's lasers looks like Spiderman's web.

Stan Lee and JK did not invent web design nor was Spider-Man the first spider influenced comic character also a LAM that looks like web has NOTHING to do with spider-man

@Nuec_Sol: The Spiders old costume was different maybe your on to something.

#13 Edited by Nuec_Sol (183 posts) - - Show Bio

@CrimsonAlchemist: Creators are influanced by of the work of others all the time. Actually, I think this upcoming, The Spider, series getting a bit of it's hype because the new new look is reminiscent if Spiderman.

#14 Posted by CrimsonAlchemist (410 posts) - - Show Bio

@Nuec_Sol: Kind of is, I think they're trying to make his look fit the name this time.

Wow!!!

#16 Posted by TerryMcC (305 posts) - - Show Bio

The costume seems to be inspired by the old serial from the 40s. with a bit of the old pulp magazine covers as well.
