Back in March we posted an advanced review for Brian Buccellato's new series at Dynamite Entertainment. We also did an interview with Buccellato on the book. Of course, he's been on a few episodes of The Invincibly Super Massive Comic Book Podcast of Stuff where he's talked about bringing the pulp character back and updating for a new generation.

The first issue is on sale this week and Dynamite has given us an exclusive extended look at it. Check out the art by Ronan Cliquet.

A classic pulp from the 30’s returns in this modern take on a seminal character that inspired several well-known comic icons. Tony Quinn is a brash Defense Attorney to the mob who compromises his ethics for financial gain. When he refuses to cross the line and commit murder, he is tortured and blinded by his gangster employers. But when a fortuitous meeting with a covert agency gives him a chance to make amends, Tony transforms into the Black Bat and embarks on a redemptive quest to right the wrongs of his past.

Reads like a bad Marvel title, but we'll see. A Batman with bullets ongoing has huge potential.

Looks a little cliche, too much like a Batman or Daredevil noir book with all that monologue. I do realize that both of those characters may have owed to Black Bat. Or at least Daredevil.

I'm buying it.

I know Buccellato is a Friend of the Site, etc, and I do enjoy his podcast appearances, but I dropped Flash despite loving the art because the writing was terrible, and this does not seem any better. Sorry.

Looks good, can't wait to pick it up.

Looks like it could be a solid read. Too bad I have to keep reducing my pull list due to my moving in a few months, so I will not be picking it up. Sad face.

I don't doubt that this comic and miss fury are going to make dynamite a serious competitor for dc and marvel.

Gosh I wanna try this so bad but funds man...funds are limited. Maybe I'll trade wait for the first arc and see how it is before I make the ongoing decision.
