Last month we heard the news that Gail Simone would be writing a new RED SONJA series. It was also announced that Nicola Scott, Colleen Doran, Jenny Frison,Stephanie Buscema and Fiona Staples would be the cover artists. We've previously seen the covers by Nicola Scott and Fiona Staples. Looks like Amanda Conner has also been added.

Cover by Nicola Scott

Here's what Gail Simone said about the cover artists:

"I had this idea to ask the top female artists in the industry to do the covers and Dynamite ran with it beyond my dreams. Not only did all the artists we asked immediately agree, they all confessed their secret love for Sonja. They adore her! Lots of the artists submitted multiple sketches because they couldn't stop, and many top names submitted sketches without even being asked, they love Sonja so much, and are dying to see this project."

Fiona Staples

Dynamite has given us a shared exclusive reveal for the rest of the covers. Check them out below.

Amanda Conner
Stephanie Buscema
Colleen Doran
Jenny Frison

RED SONJA #1 is on sale in July.

Sonja looks like a meth addict on the Staples cover.

Love the art, and love Red Sonja. This looks to be epic!

Nicola Scott's is amazing, Jenny Frison's too! Normally I love Amanda Connor's work, but it looks a little odd and I can't place my finger on it. Something about the face/expression maybe? Anyone else getting that vibe?

Sonja looks like a meth addict on the Staples cover.

Funny you said that, because a couple of them do.

The covers look like someone not very experienced drew them.

Love the Staples and Frison covers (Scott's is great too)!

Disagreed.

Meh, I like Simone...but I don't really care for Sonja, maybe I'll check out the trade...read it in the comicbook store.

Alright, Jenny Frison's cover is badass, but my question is why couldn't she do something that great for I Vampire? Her crappy as cover there is one of the main reasons no one gave that series a chance. When I thought she just couldn't draw that was one thing, but seeing that she can clearly get down with a pen, what the hell happened?

Fiona Staples is hands down one of my favorite artist, she is killing it over there at Saga. That is totally Amanda Conner drawing Red Sonja getting $#!% faced...... Love her work.

They all look great but Conner's is the highlight as usual. Too bad Simone is the most overrated writer in comics, neé all human written language.

#15 Posted by Elfaki (8 posts) - - Show Bio

Staples', Frisson's and Scott's are the best hands down! In Scott's especially! I mean she is one mean strong sexy fighter! not some sleazy playboy-ish caricature of a woman! Kudos to Gail Simone for the initiative. we need more women like her in the undustry...

#16 Posted by charlieboy (7153 posts) - - Show Bio

I will definitely check this out. Simone is a great writer and Red Sonja is a great character.

Jenny Frison's cover is amazing!

Jenny Frison, Colleen Doran and Amanda Conner are the best, in that order.

coleen and amanda for the win! when does the first issue come out?

#25 Posted by Chewish (38 posts) - - Show Bio

Is this new series going to be a good jumping on point for Red Sonja because I literally know nothing about her

#26 Edited by firecracker22 (29 posts) - - Show Bio

They all look great. Amanda Conner's cover has to be my favorite. Really nice use of black in the background and using the sword in the foreground to create the space.

But, they're all really great covers.

What else has Jenny Frison worked on? Goes to check her wiki.

That cover is STUNNING.

Collen Doran has been a favorite of mine since I discovered this:

Rebecca from ONE PIECE made her debut...today.

It's actually kind of a funny coincidence. Just today, ONE PIECE introduced a new character. She's named Rebecca. She's a female gladiator, and her outfit looks almost exactly like Red Sonia. There's no real mention of what her hair color is suppose to be, so far.

I like Gail Simone, but she needs to get off the feminist bandwagon.

July.

...read it in the comicbook store.

Please don't do that. Your local comic store needs your cash to stay in business, and no one likes a cheapskate.

#33 Posted by DH69 (4258 posts) - - Show Bio

first 2 are meh, the rest are nice though

Unfortunately this is an industry where everyone needs to be reminded once in a while that girls like comics too. Hers seems like the loudest, quickest way to do it

My local comicbook store is the only one in the city and rakes in tons of dough, me reading a $9.99 trade isn't going to break them.

#36 Posted by End_Boss (725 posts) - - Show Bio

@the_stegman: It's just rude, man. This isn't some great, sprawling organization to which your indifference is just a drop in the bucket. No, it won't break them, but that doesn't mean you should just do it. This is really basic comic book store etiquette and something you should know by now.

#37 Posted by The Stegman (23203 posts) - - Show Bio

@end_boss: I spend over a hundred bucks a month at my store, and they know I can't afford to read everything and allow me to do it, as a matter of fact they allow every customer to do it, and comic book store etiquette ? Really? Who are you to tell me how to behave in a comic book store.

#43 Posted by RedheadedAtrocitus (6885 posts) - - Show Bio

All female artists for the covers! Awesome. The cover by Conner looks wicked to me. After that Colleen Doran :)

@nightfang: I agree with the order. All were pretty cool though.

We're not talking about religion...it's pretty clear that comic books are not meant to be read in the store.

Awh yeah, look at my ladies getting it. I love how everyone is hating on Fiona Staples' cover when her's is the only one that's realistic. And by realistic I mean Sonja doesn't look all super pretty, she actually looks like she just faced down death itself in battle.
