For decades comic book readers wondered what certain characters would have been like had they been created by Stan Lee. In the early 2000s, we got a good idea how he would have handled the DC characters. Several "Just Imagine Stan Lee Creating ____" series were released. Now they being collected in a glorious omnibus.

You won't just get the issues as DC has included character sketches and "in process" material to go along with it. We have been given an exclusive look at some of the sketches.

Were these any good? I remember hearing pretty mixed things about them back in the day. Then again, I was never sure if that was just people's aversion to change or because the stories were actually bad. I for one have always been interested in them because I kind of love alternate takes on DC's big characters.

Shazam seems similar to early hulk and I like the more alien-looking Aquaman.

That Aquaman is really cool. Marvel should actually use that design for something.

His Shazam just looks like a less spikey doomsday and his Green Lantern a green Dr. Manhattan.

i read them all them , the stories were pretty damn lousy... they look pretty kick ass as a team in that top pic though and they have potential ,,,some cool costume designs but stan's writing was pretty predictable ,,,hes better off saying excelsior and making movie cameos...his best writing days are behind him ,,,,why tarnish your legacy ,,,hes like when Micheal Jordan played for the Washington wizards ,,,, its still him but its just not right ,,,stan lee writing a blond supes ...i say use your time more wisely read saga or hawkeye

.

I never read these books because I always felt Stan tried too hard to change up these characters instead of writing them how he actually would have. Basing his work off of Marvel and then comparing it to his DC reimaging, you can see that he just tried to be different.

I DID read these books and you sir hit the nail square on the head. I think if he had simply made a Batman who's more similar to Spider-man, a Superman who's more similar to Thor, and so on, he would have given us a much more enjoyable reading experience. This series just ended up being a bore.

Everyone here would be better off investing in the first or second Tangent series'. Those were epic.

I really liked the explanation for his flash costume being all white. You do think of a bright white light when you hear Flash. At least I do anyways. I agree with everyone else here Marvel could definitely use some of these in other things. That alien Aquaman needs to be a thing!

I thought the concepts and designs were interesting, but I hated Batman's design, and the stories seemed sorta shallow to me.

I love the character design and art from the Wonder Woman book. I heard the writing wasn't great, Stan Lee hasn't really grown as a writer since those early days.

He wishes... I mean, back when he would have created these, the designs had no chance of being this cool. Especially Acquaman, Superman and Flash.

I like the white and gold wonder woman; the USA motif sucks for her character, I don't care what the reasoning is.

The white + rainbow tassels look for Flash is cool, along with the fact that this Flash is female. The rainbows remind me of Power Pack's Lightspeed. I just don't like the superfluous padding. Since the costume has a sort of skater motif, I'd like it if it looked more like Ami-Comi Flash, just white + tassels. That would be sweet.

I gonna play devil's advocate: I liked these issues, more like a curiosity vintage than for an implied quality. Visually the works were okay but the stories were weak and a big reminder of previous work of Stan. (Batman, a wrestler? Wonder Woman, finding a old relic from forgotten gods? Sounds familiar). Also the language and the style were not howw the comics were done then (now), but how comics were done then (Marvels's first years, the 60s). So, everyone who was expecting a new take or style from Stan, narratively surpassed by others in that years, is comprensible their disappointment.

But, and is a big but, in some few pages Stan introduced new characters in a few pages and . (Green Lantern as the spirit of the life? Good enough to be used in Earth 2; A Superman driven by an inferiority complex? Nice take; A not aristocrat black Batman? Interesting)

So there still there were some potencial in those bricks. Not the best, but interesting enough, even if they are justified by nostalgia.
