It’s the storyline that has the whole comic industry buzzing, and today Marvel is proud to officially unveil the ‘Mortal Variant’ to DEATH OF WOLVERINE #1! Gorgeously rendered by superstar artist Ed McGuinness, the cover captures Logan as he reaches the end of his long life. This jaw-dropping cover can be ordered through the previously announced Exchangeability program.

Written by chart-topping writer Charles Soule and blockbuster artist Steve McNiven, this landmark limited series chronicles the iconic mutant’s grisly final days as he battles through a gauntlet of his greatest foes. Left without the help of his mutant healing factor, the once indestructible killing machine known as the Wolverine has found himself mortal for the first time in a long time.

As mainstream media buzz continues to build around this highly anticipate series, retailers are encouraged to check their Marvel Mailer for ordering and exchangeability information for this exclusive cover.

What does a world without Wolverine look like? Find out when first issue of DEATH OF WOLVERINE hits comic shops this September!

I'm tired with all these "deaths". They're so meaningless. Even if he dies, he'll come back within a couple of years, so what's the big deal? I want him to live and prosper, if you ask me. No need for another "death" in 616.

I don't see the big deal. Look at Daken, how many times has he died already? And that character isn't even that old. It's probably a shorter list of which characters have never died, than have died and came back.

I could see if he died doing something else, but the whole story just being the countdown to his death is stale.

Hasn't he gone to Hell and back several times already? He also regenerated from a mere skeleton during Civil War so isn't he effectively immortal at this point?

I have mixed views on death of Characters. Like i agree, i want a characters death to have purpose and not just there for shock value but i also believe in bringing them back, maybe a few years from now would be nice. I mean at the end of the day these characters live in a world where litterally any and everything is possible and its never far fetched for a return from death. My Two cents

And another thing: Isn't duke's real name James Howlett? SOHH why the f*** is his - totally random - nickname "Logan" on the tombstone? (I'll tell ya how: they just keep piling crap on to this character's back story willy nilly. He's like a Rube Goldberg machine.)

Killing heroes can be pretty boring easy but in Logan's case it could be a little more interesting.Being impossible to kill and all.

Think if this plays out I'm gonna just read DC, Valiant and Image until he returns. Marvel's been going above and beyond in pissing me off over the last year or three.

I'm so glad to have a Wolverine free Xmen and a Wolverine free Marvel universe as a whole. Finally some actually Xmen stories, though it is sad that this has to happen for that to happen especially since i do like Wolverine but I am sick and f---ing tired of the Wolverine is god crap (Xmen comics are all almost all about him including a Wolverine and the Xmen comic, hes all over the Avengers, five and a half Wolverine movies, etc.) cool cover though (still think the new costume is terrible though)

Yea I'm not gona read this. This cliché is a bit overdone and I don't wana see them kill one of my favorite heroes. I just hope when they bring Logan back, he gets a whole new writer and creative team. He could seriously use it. Maybe Brian K Vaughn? Or bring back Millar but I'm sick of all the S**** writers he's been havin.

Has comics sales of this character deteriorated that editors decided to kill him off? It would be a big thing if they plan to make this permanent though (Though I doubt it).

And because of all this deaths - especially during Ultimatum - Ultimate universe became empty cold wasteland.

Im so annoyed by this concept. Death and resurrection. Cant they just do in the ultimate universe... (i know hes already there... but Ultimate universe 2.0 maybe)

This was a great way showing that immortal wolverine wasnt all about his healing factor. But the moment they take away the healing factor, instead of showing how great a superhero logan is.... they decide to make him whine for a year and then die.

I wonder if this is another one of Marvel's attempts to de-popularize the properties that FOX currently owns the film rights too. I hope that this method works, it kind of seems douchy, but I don't care.

It won't work because its an idiotic idea.

Comic readers represent the 1% of a film going audience. Probably less.

What they do to their comics has absolute no effect on the movies.
