September is a huge months for the folks over at DC. Back in 2011, they kicked off The New 52 during the month and last year they celebrated with a volley of zero issues to explore origin stories. This year, though, they're celebrating the evil characters in their universe. Chatting with Buzzfeed, Co-Publishers Dan DiDio and Jim Lee told the website that the events in Trinity War will lead to their famous foes getting more focus. Their time to shine will come in a story called Forever Evil, an arc which will serve as The New 52's "first major crossover."

The seven issue limited-series will invade plenty of pre-existing titles but USA TODAY revealed it'll spawn a few new ones. First up is Forever Evil: Rogues. Written by Brian Buccellato and illustrated by Patrick Zircher, this book will of course focus on Flash's group of enemies. Then there's Forever Evil: Arkham War by Peter Tomasi and Scot Eaton. Geoff Johns described this as "the biggest story with Bat-villains you'll ever see." Lastly, there's Forever Evil: A.R.G.U.S. with Matt Kindt. This series will revolve around Steve Trevor and how he'll respond to all of the shady actions ARGUS is taking.

To help promote the month, DC released a slew of images (click the covers for "3D motion").

When asked if any of the villains will branch off into their own series, DiDio stated, "There is a definite chance of that, and we’re still discussing that right now, as a matter of fact." Also worth noting for Batman fans: DiDio said Hush will not be involved in Forever Ever, but they do indeed have "such big plans" for him down the road.

Viners, would you want to see any of the above villains get their own ongoing series?

UPDATE

DC has released 3 more 3D motion covers. Additionally, CBR has exclusives for a few more Bat villains. September definitely looks like it'll be an expensive month if you're fond of Bruce's enemies.

Has anyone noticed why the Heroes are positioned on our left side of view on most of these covers, would be interesting if they do it for the rest that are coming out

JL: This is actually our first press announcement on this: we’re also commemorating this event by doing something really unheard of, I think, as far as a major publisher - we’re actually adding a special cover on every single villain’s book. It’s called a 3D motion cover and it’s essentially artwork that’s been separated onto different layers, so when you hold the cover, which is a premium stock cover, and you slightly rotate the comic book left or right or up and down, the images move a bit.

DD: It’s an incredible 3D effect that shows depth of field on the covers. It’s the full cover stock, so it’s not anything that’s been glued on. More importantly, it’s actually pliable and soft to the touch - it’s a brand new technology and we’re going to be the first ones debuting in this fashion.

JL: They’re amazing covers. It’s an effect that you haven’t seen before, and like Dan said, it’s an entire cover. Any time in the past that they’ve done specialty covers, you would only get like a small trading card size image on the cover that was a hologram or lenticular bit of technology. This is the whole cover and it is amazing. The colors and the depth of field allows you to actually see the logo of the new book. Let’s say the Joker is taking over, it’ll be the Batman title in the background, and you’ll see the Joker title splattered on top of the Batman logo itself. It really sells the concept in a very visual way.

Gah I hope not. Out of all of these the only book I'm currently reading JL Dark. If the price goes up I think I'll drop until the event is over

Awesome!

Is Desaad wearing Pandora's dress on that Earth-2 cover? Very nice!

That's pretty cool. I don't like to consider Catwoman and villain tho. Luthor's new suit reminds me of the extremis suit.

No Wonder woman. What a surprise! ¬¬"

#16 Posted by t3hLomb (55 posts) - - Show Bio

@teerack: Maybe the aftermath of what just happened in JLA is that she goes back to a full on villain again.

#17 Posted by DonFelipe (1096 posts) - - Show Bio

Oh sweet, the 3D effect!

Batman TDK -- well hello there, Red Hood!

Two-Face -- they should have used a few more frames for the coin flip.

not particularly impressed by the 3D motion covers, but intrigued by the idea of the villain month. Are they releasing 52 ".1" villain issues that month instead of the regular titles? Or are they just releasing the ones above in addition to the regular titles?

Are you talking about not seeing one in the preview, or there not being one made? All 52 titles are getting one.

I'm glad Sinestros back in his corps but I thought he left the whole villainy thing behind after the volthoom arc :/ hope he didn't join the society that's so beneath him :l

He's just debuting like this month and already getting his own story in the main GL title? Good for Relic if they're really going to push him hard.

Start of an event, with gimmick covers, why not? Also great collectables. Collectors will eat these up and people that want to read the event across the board will eat this up. It is a win-win for DC. I just hope it doesn't go past September.

So, I like how no one realizes that these are just the first of the covers to be revealed. Instead a lot of people are just assuming that several series aren't getting villains month issues. They said EVERY series.

Never thought that there would be a Creeper issue that i WOULDN'T want to read......and that pic is definitely not Finch's best work.

This is excellent news since the main reason I read comics is for the villains nowadays. I can't wait for this though if they release the regular month's issues plus the villain issues, I'm going to be hurting, financially. Still, I'm excited.

Yeah, it would have been nice to see a little more variety in the initial previews, instead of having two Superman and three Batman issues. Wonder Woman seems like a sensible one to have used, seeing as she's the other member of the Trinity.

Hopefully we'll get some more previews soon. :)

DC probably hasn't revealed which villain will be taking over Wonder Woman.

So will DC ever actually get back to writing good stories instead of pumping out gimmick after gimmick? "Oh let's have a 0# month, no wait let's have WTF covers on every book, I know lets have a villain month!!!"

YAWN just right some god damn good books DC.

Yay the Batman cover! Wasn't expecting them to put the Joker on it, but then again it makes sense now if they are dealing with Bruce Wayne's origin,
