The whole world is talking about it, and today Marvel is proud to officially unveil the final three main covers to DEATH OF WOLVERINE! Superstar artist Steve McNiven teams with inker Jay Leisten and colorist Justin Ponsor for three epic covers depicting the last days and the final end of the iconic X-Man.

Written by chart-topping writer Charles Soule with interior art by McNiven, Leisten and Ponsor – this weekly four-issue limited series chronicles the last day of the Wolverine as he makes his final stand. Left without his healing factor, the indestructible killing machine must come to terms with his newfound vulnerability. And when word gets out of his newfound mortality, villains from Logan’s past and present set their sights on his head.

Shipping weekly in September, each issue of Death of Wolverine is oversized and features stunning Weapon Etched Holo Foil cover treatment. Exclusively crafted for this series, each foil-wrapped issue of Death of Wolverine is poised to leap off comic shop shelves come September!

As mainstream media buzz continues to grow around this highly anticipated series, retailers are strongly encouraged to check their orders. Time is running out for the Wolverine. No fan can afford to miss the spectacular end of the world’s most famous X-Man when DEATH OF WOLVERINE kicks off in this September!

Incredible art, but let's see how long he stays dead.

Those are some nice covers.

I think the cover of #4 says it all(even if it is slightly reminiscent of The Death of Captain Marvel GN). Can't mourn the guy though- I know he'll probably be back in time for the next X-film.

Love Mcniven's work. His Civil War run is some off the best work I've seen. Glad he's doing Logan again, though I really don't care too much about the plot. It Wolverine, for god sakes, and since when has an X-Men character stayed dead for too long.

Alleluja, Alleluja, Alleluja!

I hope that Lady Death close Wolverine somewhere in the afterlife for at least 3 years [no, I know that he will return... but come one.. at least 3 years, please, stay dead!]

Anyway, amazing cover, really :)

Those are some amazing covers from Steve Mcniven.

Really cool covers BUT Steve mcnivens art has not been doing it for me lately. In my opinion run on uncanny avengers and guardians of the galaxy look very very rushed. So hopefully he steps up cause he is possibly the best wolverine artist at mavel.

Steve Mcniven is a amazing artist but it hard to excited about something you know is just gimmick, may as well save my excitement for Mcniven covers when Wolverine is brought back

@ninjablade09: still waiting on thunderbird being brought back to life

Gorgeous art, but I just can't get excited about this. Too much of a blatantly cash-grabby shock tactic. Show us some kind of signed pledge to keep him dead for 5-10 years and maybe this'd have some weight to it, but as it stands I wouldn't be surprised if "Return Of Wolverine" is already scheduled to be published a year from now.

Agreed, this is so ridiculous. McNiven's art is gorgeous, agreed, but I don't care for Soule as a writer and this is all just pathetic. An arranged death? Is that what comic book death's have come to? A hyped build-up to a huge climax, only to then bring him back in a month? What a pathetic cash grab.

Looks like the scar on right side of his face is healed. So maybe he gets his powers back for a little bit before he dies.

Kinda excited for Kitty. We'll see whats her role.

Probably around just to kick Logan's arse easier than Batroc did. Add insult to injury before burying the ole Canucklehead.

Ηe's gonna be back......

#20 Posted by SpitfirePanda (1217 posts) - - Show Bio

So Logan dies… what if they make a series of him fighting through the afterlife? Wolverine vs armies of history's most despotic villains, both from earth and places elsewhere!

#21 Posted by Transformers1024 (6776 posts) - - Show Bio

Yea..."death"... Is this going to be like the times when Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Nightcrawler, Hal Jordan, Barry Allen, Superboy, and Captain America "died"?

Oh well, those covers are utterly breathtaking. Can't get enough of McNivens art!

#22 Posted by spacemanspiff85 (137 posts) - - Show Bio

Have they announced anything about what's going to happen to the multiple series revolving around Wolverine after he dies? I guess Wolverine and the X-Men could just have a name change, but you still have Wolverine and Savage Wolverine, I think. I'd be kind of surprised if Marvel just stops publishing them altogether.

Oh my God! Wolverine dies! (Stupid, unnecessary deaths, since the superhero returns within a couple of years. So meaningless these days).

P.S. The art is great.

what does it matter if we all know that he'll eventually be back as long as they tell a good story in the process?

#26 Posted by patrat18 (11584 posts) - - Show Bio

Beautiful.

#27 Posted by SoA (5706 posts) - - Show Bio

he will probably need to die to "reboot" his powers or something to that degree , like nightwing in forever evil he will pop back in the last issue

Gimmick central.

what does it matter if we all know that he'll eventually be back as long as they tell a good story in the process?

Because the story won't be good.

@transformers1024:

You forgot about Colossus lol the only character I can think of that actually stayed dead was Ben Riley and that was mostly because of the failure that was the Clone Saga (even if he was the best thing to come out of it)

@wolverine08: do we have hoverboards in the future?

I rode one this morning actually. Really smooth travel, only thing I'd complain about is how much of a hassle air traffic can be at times.

@danhimself: You know what, sorry about the snarky comment. No need for that on my part.

Great covers shame they are wasted on a pointless story.

Logan will be back in 30 issues of his death/when the sequel to the Wolverine comes out.

@wolverine08: I'm shocked that final cover doesn't have you drooling, fanboy. :P

#39 Posted by BuNKiTZ (204 posts) - - Show Bio

This feels like it'll be more permanent than the usual Marvel deaths... Especially since this is Wolverine, who's never died (as far as I know?) and is well known for his healing factor.

#40 Posted by NICKXH (320 posts) - - Show Bio

Of course it's obvious that Wolverine will come back. He is Marvel's cash cow. I bet Marvel will bring him back by the time the next X-Men or Wolverine movie is released.

#41 Posted by Crimsonlord53 (1459 posts) - - Show Bio

Good he can stay dead till the current time line jean comes back. Please no white light and a female from with jean's "voice" as he goes into the white light.

#42 Posted by EdBlank (751 posts) - - Show Bio

Usually the "goodness" of a story comes with not knowing exactly what the end is going to be. Sure the hero dies sometimes in stories but they kinda make you think he'll make it then BAM. Makes it interesting.

This? "Wolverine's gonna die." Then a car barely misses him. Then a piano falls from the sky and just misses him. I imagine this will be like Final Destination. I'm yawning.

#43 Edited by myerlanski (1777 posts) - - Show Bio

I get the feeling this might be permanent a lot longer than some realize....and we be going through clones, doppelgangers, androids, shifters, and lost family for quite a while....

#44 Edited by KyreCat (26 posts) - - Show Bio

.... alternate universe versions..... time traveling..... Skrull impersonators...... drops of DNA falling on a radioactive Tic Tac....

#45 Posted by Timotheus316 (163 posts) - - Show Bio

Guys sometimes it's the story with the "death" in the middle. We already know that Wolverine won't be dead for long. That's not the point. Read the story for what it is. This has never happened before with Wolverine. Read it first and then make judgements on it. Just like how Colossus was brought back and Captain America was brought back. The stories were awesome and we wanted those guys back. The way both were written was excellent. Lets see how it unfolds before we get pissy because "he won't stay dead." Sheesh. It's comic books for crying out loud. Not real life.

As always McNiven presents some amazing covers that are jawdropping.

I love that Logan has bandages around his arms because of the loss of his healing factor, it's a nice , little detail.

I like the first one and the last one the most, due to how morbid yet to the point they are. The other two don't look like "Death of Wolverine" covers at all.

#50 Posted by GenesisX (89 posts) - - Show Bio

@donovan_montgomery:

Yes. It's entirely within continuity.

@transformers1024:

Pretty sure there are four characters that will never come back: Ben Riley, Gwen and George Stacy, and Uncle Ben. MJ could easily be killed off now, since Peter has the cop as his girlfriend.
