Marvel Casts Martin Freeman for Captain America: Civil War

Marvel announced today that actor Martin Freeman has been cast for the 2016 film Captain America: Civil War. Based on the hit Marvel event, Civil War, which has hero fighting hero over the decision to register all super-powered beings, both bad and good, it has yet to be announced who Freeman will be playing.

It's hard to figure out who he is playing though, but taking a guess, out of the blue, maybe he could play Henry Gyrich, a politician who is nothing but trouble for super-human beings. In fact, at one point, he was brainwashed and tried to depower all powered beings. But hey, that's just our stab in the dark show. Who do you think he could be playing?

Captain America: Civil War is set to come out on May 6, 2016.

I love him on Sherlock, so that's cool. Really can't have an opinion until I know who he's playing though.

I doubt he is playing a bad guy. When has he ever played a villain before? I actually think he will be the new head of the world security consel or the UN or whatever.

I'm probably way off base on this, but how about...Norman Osborn?

With Spidey in this movie, and the MCU Spidey film in the not-too-distant future, why not introduce Osborn here? It could also be a nice setup for a Skrull Wars/Dark Reign series in about a decade or so?

Not to mention, I think a Brit playing Osborn could give it a much different twist.

anybody know if the deal with sony included Norman Osborn? Not that this is the actor who will play him, but I am curious if we will ever see dark reign/siege? I really feel like we as a comic book community have really been robbed of some of the most important aspects of marvel story telling due to the fact that they sold off their most valuable assests during the bankruptcy. Anybody who grew up in the 80s and 90's knows that Marvel was nothing without the X-men, fantastic 4, and spiderman, back then it was "avengers who? oh you mean the guys who dissapeared fighting onslaught? oh yeah" to me the dyamic of the X-Men, Xaviers dream,Utopia would have been amazing in the context of the larger X-Men universe, and all true X-fans know that registration acts are evil. Civil War was a joke with its whose side are you on nonsense, everybody and there mother agreed Tony had lost it. AvX however, no matter how poorly executed was a much more divisive story and that premise actually divided the fanbase much more than civil war. Basically I highly doubt they will be able to mimic the mutant phenomenon with bandaid inhumans.

I can't wait to see who he's going to be, but I don't think it'll be Gyrich as im sure Fox must have his rights since he was in the first two x-men films, or it maybe a Quicksilver type blurred line as he has played major roles in both Avengers and x-men comics in the past.

Personally id have loved to see him play Hank Pym but that dream was quashed with Mr. Douglas

Freeman's character on Fargo was a slimy and corrupt guy so he can pull it off. Osborn could be a govt scientist and or militany liason who's recited to help with registration. Weave in how he's tied to military bio weapons and how that led to test..Allude to spiderman origin

Also heard that he may very likely be an American liason to Wakanda, Everett Ross from the comics

The fact that he's in this film made me think of Spidey, which led me to the idea that he'd be excellent as Ezekiel. He should be a fun watch anyway, though.

Can't really see him as a villain. He has a serious case of nice-face but maybe that will make it more surprising if he does end up a bad guy.

Definitely Henry... But are we going to see Nitro nuke everything?? Because I think as far as things from the storyline that SHOULD be in the movies is that whole sequence.. Just seeing that on screen would most definitely give me chills and make my jaw drop..

@inferiorego I immediately went to either Henry, an older Parker whos retired or been presumed dead for years (which would explain why hes not around, AND would allow for Spiderman to be Miles after the first Parker film), or the Watcher ( because at this point i think the MCU viewerbase could handle it).
