Perhaps that term was not widely used (or used at all) during the time his character was created which was 1977.

Chod is also a spiritual practice performed by Tibetan Yogis. It's supposed to mean "cutting away" I think. I'm guessing this is where they got the name. Either that or its just a nonsense name they made up. I was aware of the other meaning though.
