Notifications

I hope this isn't a retread, I guess it will get locked if it is. Not trying to get into trouble for making a complaint you may already be aware of.

Yeah I can't see any of them and I am also getting notification when I mention myself in a comment again. As in I quote one of my previous posts.

I'm checking with our engineer to see if those will be coming back. We pushed a pretty major change to notifications today intended to make the system more stable, so that might have something to do with it, but hopefully we can get them back.

The same thing is happening on all of my devices.

LOL I came in here thinking "Hah! Too bad for you, suckers."

Ten minutes later, I check my notifications. Looks like the joke's on me.

Yeah, that's definitely a bug that I'll be filing. Sorry.

Just to speak generally about notifications, the changes that we're rolling out were intended to improve the reliability and stability of the system. Everyone on this site is probably aware that notifications have been...fragile ever since they rolled out. Sometimes they wouldn't work, sometimes they would be delayed by hours, sometimes the whole system would crash when someone with 20,000 followers would post a blog. So hopefully the changes to the notifications will help with some of those issues going forward even if there are some hiccups in the immediate future. If you check your settings page, you'll note that some of the older groups of notifications have been split out into more discrete groups; make sure your settings are up to date! (I don't think the wiki edit notifications are working at the moment, though.)

@rorie: Just to throw this out there, and I'm not even sure if it helps, but at the very top of the page where the title of the web page is at (on the iPhone), it usually only says "Notifications" when I go to my notifications page. Now, it's saying "106me's profile Notifications". Not sure if it helps, but I thought I might tell you, so you at least know.

EDIT/UPDATE: I did receive two notifications at around 6:30, but I only got it recently. My old notifications are still gone. I figured that at this point they would just be irretrievable. Not in a way to insult the staff, but this just sounds pretty complex.

Not getting all my Notifications :( Im getting some but not all of them. It seems the ones im not getting is from callouts.

Any news on this old notifications thing?

If you are having problems though, please describe them to pikahyper and/or other staff members that work on the bugs.

@lukehero: boo as talking about old notifications on the the notification wall, they used to be retained but the bug is limiting it to a few days.

@pikahyper: Ahhh, yeah, I hope that gets fixed. I like being able to look for old notifications, for threads I like.

@lukehero: Yeah, it can be frustrating, especially if you're away a few days, very easy to miss things :)

@pikahyper: I know you guys maybe working on it, it's so weird. Other people are telling me they are getting notifications & I am not getting any.

@lukehero: I'm just a mod so I'm not actually working on it. I can say though that notifications are all over the place and it is for everyone, due to site performance issues what day it is and the time of day play a large part in if notifications are working or not and when the engineers are working on them the notifications get turned off a lot without any notice so there is really no way to predict if they are working at any given time and I have no clue how long this will continue.

@lukehero: check your settings, I just woke up to a bunch and have been getting them every day.

So are we ever gonna get to see old old notifications? Cause sometimes if I am away from home and only on a phone I'll ignore people, but then reply when I can get to a computer, but if too many people mention me I'll forget and not be able to see old stuff.

@allstarsuperman: just a guess but I'm thinking no, having old notifications would be a big performance drain and a lot of stuff has already been disabled or dropped completely due to site performance not being good enough and we are still seeing performance issues on an almost daily basis so its not very likely

I'm not sure how related this is, but my notifications page doesn't load all the way.

@xwraith: what's missing?

@pikahyper: The page itself only loads about halfway, so I can't scroll through all of my notifications.

@xwraith: so you don't see the standard footer at the bottom?

@pikahyper: I too am having notification problems again, it's like I am only getting some of them, but I miss out on others.
