Forum Search Reset

Hi all

Forums are being reindexed again (to deal w/ a couple of critical issues) and so will be behind for a couple of days. We are spinning up additional machines and hope to have these problems dealt with before the beginning of next week.

@mrpibb: would this mess of indexing/reindexing wiki stuff? Issues I added over an hour ago are not showing up in search, issue title renames are not showing up in search either.

@mrpibb: Is this pertaining to the forum search malfunctioning?

This is purely forum search and should not be pertaining w/ wiki objects. I'll check w/ the engineer dealing with the search and see what's going on.

@mrpibb: is the reindexing of the forum delaying the indexing of the wiki? It looks like the wiki index is 12 hours behind for changes/additions, I think exactly 12 hours.

hmmm, didn't realize it was still behind. Will check.

Ok fixed now, I see new issues coming up.

Issue counts for volumes are not updating either but association appearances are.

Never mind, it caught up around 4am with a 30+ minute lag and now it is about a five minute lag, I guess indexing just slows down a lot at night. Do you guys have some daily over night database cleaning scheduled?

@pikahyper: I'll look into it. It should have a 2 minute lag at most but this is also the first Monday/Tuesday we're dealing with so we have a bit of optimization we will work on.

Forum search should be caught up tho.

@mrpibb: monday/tuesday isn't actually that different then regular days we just do way more daily editing then GB :P there is definitely something slowing down indexing at night, as of right now it is three hours behind.

@pikahyper: yeah, we're looking at a different search technology as CV's search needs are a much more intense then GB.

Would this affect threads?

Various threads I've made don't show up in the search and also don't show up in my "watched topics/favorite topics," while other threads that I've made, and other recent threads made by others, do show up in the favorite topics.

@owie: that's a separate bug where occasionally threads you create don't show up in the forum they were created in, I have no clue what is causing it, for the time being just ask for them to be deleted and create them again.

sorry guys, went on vacation and got back recently so catching up. Indexer should be back up and running.

@owie: Looks like the forum search was behind a few days. Both of the threads you mentioned are now in the search index. Please verify and let me know if there is still an issue.

@mrpibb: looks like it is down again, bout 24 hours now, it's like it is powered by a hand crank or something, any time you guys are out of the office or focused on something else bam it goes down :/

Edited to add: Correction it looks like it is indexing everything except issues.

got it, we really need to get the new search system up. I'll ping the engineer on this issue.
