As said in title, comes up with an error each time.

This has been like it for a while.

@dragonborn_ct: @pyrogram: the image editor was discontinued a while ago, I'm not sure why you still see the option to use it.

@pikahyper: Are you serious? The edit function to crop avatars, why the heck was that disabled? That's the dumbest thing I've ever seen this site do, wtf?

@the_last_samurai: not nearly enough people used it to justify the resources it used up, much better alternative web based editors are available online for free.

@pikahyper: The site used to have so many options and they are slowly getting rid of them. I thought they were focusing on more user options not less...Also, what are the dimensions for avatars?

@pyrogram: don't hold me to it but I think the pruning back is just to make the overall platform more stable so that when new features and returning features are implemented they won't be as accident prone.

For personal avatars it is 96x96 for profiles and 58x58 in the forum, any square image over 96px should scale down fine.

@pikahyper: Truth is at how the rates are looking, in 1 or two years we'll still be stuck at this stage. New features, will probably be implemented in 3+ years, I mean, it's been a year since the site shift to the new owners and we're still stuck with basic bugs.

Thanks.

@pyrogram: well the thing people tend to forget is that the original CV didn't spring up in a day, not even a year, that platform took over five years to become what we got used to, it is extremely jarring starting over but it really is to be expected with a brand new platform built from scratch. Even if you compare one year into new CV to one year in with the old CV we are waaaay further along.

Also the slow pace has a lot to do with the engineering team being shared across multiple sites, the engineering team may be comparable to the Whiskey team (and have to work on nearly the same amount of sites) but the Whiskey team didn't have to deal with the politics/bureaucracy and demands of a large corporation slowing them down (they also weren't working on the platform as much), those checks and balances are a pretty big time drain I'm sure.

@pyrogram: we do indeed, I'm pretty sure I'm being shunned by all the staff cause I went off on one of them a couple weeks ago via email :P frustration builds up and sometimes you just gotta let it out, all part of being human.

@pyrogram: I'd recommend Pixlr, I've always used photoshop myself but from what I've seen Pixlr looks to be one of the best online editors plus it allows importing via a url so you can grab an image from a website, edit it and then import it from Pixlr to CV all via the url's so you never have to download the image even.

Yeah, piggybacking on this. I use pixlr for av editing. Super easy to crop and choose dimensions for things, and it's a free website, so you don't even need to download anything.

They have a free version of Photshop out there. It's legal and works really well for simple stuff.

@dagmar_merrill: are you talking about the web based photoshop express editor? it is nice but it is sluggish and bloated, as far as I can see Pixlr looks much better.

@dagmar_merrill: that's actually not legal, you can only legally download and install it if you already own a copy, it isn't really enforced as Adobe "freely" provides a master key to activate it but strictly speaking if installed without prior ownership you would be breaking the law.

@dagmar_merrill: looks like you are right, they changed it from how it started out, they are using a whole different process now so it does look legal. I remember there were some technical problems when they first released it so instead of wasting manpower on it they probably just decided to cut out the middle-man and release it to anyone with an adobe account. Makes sense, CS2 is a pretty horrible editor though, CS3 is my sweet spot, can't stand anything before or after.

Seconded. I loved the CV pic editor. Is there anything out there that operates like it did?

@cbishop: I don't think I've ever used the image editor so I'm not sure what features it had, I recommended an alt service in post #13, give it a shot and see if it is to your liking :)

@pikahyper: I saw that, I was just wondering if there was something that worked exactly like the CV one did. It was very user friendly, and with tech, I need all the help I can get. lol

@cbishop: ah, you'll probably just have to test some out, there's not a whole lot that would be useful maybe a dozen decent ones so it shouldn't take you much time to find one just google "web based image editor".

Sorry to anyone who liked this feature. In the end it was used on far, far fewer than 1% of all image uploads, though, so it seemed to be a good spot to try and remove some complexity from the image uploading process. I personally like Picmonkey.com for simple cropping and resizing features.

@rorie: FYI, the "edit/crop" feature added no complexity unless you needed to use it.
