@wildvine: Hey, if you see this, please take a screenshot of the ad that's playing and post it here. We try to get rid of these as they pop up, and our policy is to disallow them, but sometimes an external ad network tries to sneak them through.

A new tab was opened without my consent, bringing me to some other website. The website is: www.lpmxp2085.com

This isn't the first time it's happened.

That's happened to me too.

I can handle some annoying sound once in awhile.

But a pop up that threatens to install a virus on my computer, as my anti-virus warned me? That's not tolerable.

@jedixman: @xwraith: more info would be needed to figure what the cause was most likely: a link to which CV page(s) it happened on, as precise a time as possible with time zone, if there was a physical ad on CV that opened it then a screenshot of the ad and it's placement on the site would probably be the most helpful.

@pikahyper: It seems to happen at random to me, but most of the times I can remember it happening I was on the "Recent Topics" page.

@xwraith: Where on the page are the ad's? I haven't seen ads on CV in a long time so I don't remember where they are placed. Also can you recall what any of the ad's were for? when it comes to figuring out where a bad ad is coming from you can never give too much info.

The time appears random. It has happened to me in the afternoon, evening, morning, etc. I'll try to pay attention to ads.

I think it's happening the most when I'm on the Off Topic board, in the board or in the main page. Looking at my history, the page I visited was a thread in OT (link) and the main page. I'm not sure which one I was on when it popped up; I might have been in the middle of clicking on the thread. Actually, it's possible that the act of clicking on anything on the site causes the issue, but I can't confirm this.

@pikahyper:

By the way, my browser is Firefox. I haven't tried Chrome, so I don't know if it's happening on there, too (I only use Chrome for my alts)

And bottom right, under the top posters list, as well as the very bottom under the posting box and at the very top, above the "Comicvine > Forums > (forum name).

@xwraith: @jedixman: very useful info, next time it happens try to mark down the exact time(s) as well, knowing the exact time, what the ad was for and what page it happened on should allow someone higher up to look up exactly what ad network it was so they can get rid of it (that kind of stuff is usually logged so everyone gets paid).

@pikahyper: It just happened to me again on this page: http://www.comicvine.com/forums/gen-discussion-1/world-championship-manga-and-comics-hybrid-tournam-1547025/?page=89

The ads I remember were for Dark Horse Comics and MiniInTheBox (whatever that is).

@jedixman: Thanks, I'll see if I can track these down. Let me know if you see any more of them. If you start getting audio, it also "helps" to click on the ad and see what the end URL is; that helps a lot in tracking down the ad.

Had a weird page pop up http://www.desert-operations.us/?loginbox_show_register=1 Its happened three times now.

Twice on this thread http://www.comicvine.com/forums/off-topic-5/songs-that-are-homage-to-superheroes-1590516/

and once now on the thread we are on now. I use Chrome and the local time is 2:40 central time.

@wildvine: Where are you located physically? I think some of these ads are location-based.

@wildvine: Hmm, try to take a screencap of any ad that's playing audio if you can; I'm trying to replicate this but haven't been able to pop any of these ads up yet.

@rorie: No no. These aren't audio adds. They are redirections to other sites.
