A new report coming from TheWrap states that the notorious Star Wars bounty hunter, Boba Fett will be getting his own stand-alone film in 2018. As of this moment, Disney has yet to comment on whether or not these reports are true.

The character, originally played by Jeremy Bulloch in Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, has captured the attention of anyone who has seen the original trilogy. He was a bounty hunter in some pretty cool armor, who got knocked into a Sarlacc pit by a blind man and was presumed dead. In the expanded universe books, which are no longer canon, Boba had a life after that incident and some incredible stories. If this is all true, will they pull bits and pieces from those original stories?

Again, there is no confirmation on whether this is true, but we'll keep you updated as more develops.

They said at the Star Wars Story Group panel at Celebration that Boba Fett was simultaneously alive and dead in the Sarlacc Pit until a story pulls him out. This would be a smart move given the characters massive appeal.

In the Clone Wars Bossk and Boba are bros though so maybe they will be in this movie. I'm hoping we See Boba vs Bane at some point since one of the unfinished Clone Wars arches was about Bane getting the mandalorians to train Boba so he could fight and defeat him some day and prove he was better than the Fett's.

My favorite bounty hunter is Aurra Sing so I'm hoping she will be a big part of this movie.

We've already seen Boba Fett's origin story in Attack of the Clones. Just make a movie about he became a bounty hunter and how he started working for Jabba the Hutt. That would be cool to see.

@ceo_of_fresh: @ceo_of_fresh: @youknowwhattodo: Boba Fett's bawss!

Though he has, admittedly, few scenes in the original trilogy, he is the crucible that allowed for the capturing of Han, Leia, and Chewbacca, drawing Luke to Cloud City for his eventual defeat at the 'hands' (LOL) of his father.

Fans were also given a taste of the capabilities of his mandalorian armor during Jango's fight against Obi Wan on Kamino in ep. II.

I'll never get how he got so popular. All he did was stand around and get causally killed by Luke.

I hope they get Daniel Logan to play as him again, he'd be about the right age now. Boba Fett is really only interesting in the EU because he didn't die like a chump. He went on to become Mandalore.

Bobba Fet has really come a long way since his first role as a heavily armored courier for frozen bodies. He was basically a Galactic UPS Guy, now he's friggen Batman!

One of the most overrated supporting characters in the history of cinema.

Objectively, I know this is true, but the character is still intriguing. I think it's the fact we knew little about him in the original series which made him so memorable. He was cool, and we could project even more coolness into him by speculating about his past and motivations.

I really hope not. I doubt many people would go see it, and I'm not sure why he's do popular anyway when he was in the movies for five minutes and got killed like nothing

@ceo_of_fresh:To me, he has much of the same appeal as the Uomo Senza Nome from the Dollars Trilogy - which is where Lucas drew much inspiration in the conception of Boba Fett. He was created during a time when the Western genre still played a very large part in American culture (though these attitudes were shifting). Everyone was familiar with that lonesome gun-slinging figure. A man of few words, quick to the draw with a deadly aim. In my opinion, Boba Fett reflects a lot of these romantic ideas that movie goers had of the wild west.

Fett's a mysterious man whose reputation is based on legend and tales of fear.

No. This is my favourite Bounty Hunter. If I could choose the stand-alones, I'd go either for a Cad Bane, Hondo Ohnaka or General Grievous film.

well that's not quite how i meant it. i'm just saying i won't be able to get invested in the movie if i know it still just ends in him getting a stupid death. but if the movie includes him breaking out, then sure, i'll watch it.

You understand that this would expanded upon the new universe right? When Disney bought Lucasfilm Ltd. they didn't fire everyone a lot of the people working there are the same people still, so surly they will have a good idea of what fan's want to see from Boba.

Since they kept the cast the same for Episode 7 I wonder if they will use Temuera Morrison for Boba since he is a Jango clone.

I'm going to go all hipster and say I was a fan of Boba Fett before he got so popular. He has been popular for many many years but I think with Dark Horse doing the comics on him as well as the internet, they have helped him skyrocket in popularity as a character. I remember reading the expanded universe story about him escaping the Sarlaac when I was 10 years old. I took my Boba Fett action figure around with me in my pocket everywhere and the paint started coming off. I used my shoe as Slave 1. I was a dedicated Boba Fett fan. I even said I wanted to be a bounty hunter for awhile (thankfully I grew out of that! haha). Do I know why I loved Boba Fett so much? His armor? His general badassery despite limited screen time? I honestly don't know but Boba Fett has been my favorite Star Wars character pretty much since I first saw him in Empire Strikes Back. I would love to see him in a standalone movie if it's done right, though. A character who played such a huge role in the original saga despite limited time on film who is still shrouded in mystery despite what we all know deserves a movie. Just my two cents.

Darth Maul needs a movie, too.
