Zuko vs Zaheer

Surprisingly, I don't think this has been done before

The leader of the Red Lotus has been transported back to the time of ATLA on a mission to eliminate the new Fire Lord Zuko. Can he succeed?

Time is noon

All are in character but determined to win. Victory by ko or death

Round 1:

Zaheer has his glider. No flight

Zuko has his swords

Fight takes place in the Agni Kai arena. Starting distance is 25 feet

Round 2:

Zaheer has flight. He starts in the air

Zuko is Sozin's Comet enhanced

Fight takes place at the Western Air Temple. Starting distance is 50 feet.

Wow, honestly a draw for both fights. I suggest this be a CaV pretty good set up.

@arcus: They're able to just counter each other pretty effortlessly. Zuko can keep Zaheer at bay and Zaheer can keep from getting torched.

Round 2 is tough for both since Zaheer can't get close to Zuko without risking him getting tagged by Zuko. Zaheer's raw power wouldn't be enough to deflect Zuko's amped fire, in my opinion. Zuko also can't hit him easily since Zaheer has flight and he doesn't know how to shoot lightning (then again, everyone in LoK can dodge lightning). Depends on who can outwit/outlast the other.

Round 1, leaning towards Zaheer. Both of them are skillful at dodging and attacking; but Zuko's fire can be fanned away by Zaheer's airbending while he has to dodge Zaheer's attack.

At first I was gonna say Zaheer then Zuko but after further thought it would seem to be a draw

Well for round 1 Zuko has experience fighting airbenders and while aang was usually playing Zuko didn't do bad most of the time Zaheer is good but not aang good but in the series he does have feats such as fighting Tonraq and a restrained Korra which does show he could be a threat but Zuko won't allow him to get close enough to land a hit that will knock him off the temple or even a hit that will be enough to damage him because Zuko has one of the best durabilities in the avatarverse and Zaheer won't be able to air remove him without Zuko hitting him because it seemed to require extreme concentration and only can be performed when the victim is either a non bender or incapacitated and for round 2 Zaheer is not getting anywhere near Zuko let alone harming him with that kind of range

Round 1 - Couldgo either way but leanign toward Zaheer

Round 2 - I think Zuko's power and blast range would make it hard for Zaheer to handle effectively. Leaning toward Zuko for a slight majority.

@arcus: zaheer is a very good airbender, though zuko is not a pushover fire bender, their elements play a vital role here, zaheer is a dangerous airbender and can be compared to book1 aang but zuko as a fire bender is just............

This is a good one, but i think i gotta give the first round to Zaheer and the second to Zuko, possibly. Considering the arena, i don't think Zaheer's glider will be hugely useful, and even if he did manage to fly around with it Zuko could wreck it with a well aimed fire blast. He's also got much less experience and training with his bending than Zuko, but i think his ferocity, tactical prowess and sheer power mean he would win, after a good fight. Zaheer is also less likely to get worked up during the fight, while Zuko is more hot headed. So, unless Zuko uses lightening as soon as he gets the chance, and lands a direct hit, i think Zaheer takes it.

The second round is, in my opinion, much harder for both of them, as Zuko could probably fry Zaheer to a crisp with one decent blast, but Zaheer can avoid most of what is thrown at him, unless Zuko just spams fire in all directions. However, i think Zuko would eventually do just that, or perhaps pull off a well aimed fire ball or lightening bolt, but it's more likely he'd win via spamming, in my opinion. Essentially, it's just a matter of time.

@arcus: No, you're absolutely right, i'm mixing things up in my head. That does give Zaheer more of a chance in both rounds, actually, but i think i'm sticking with my original thoughts.

Is there any reason to think that Zuko could have learned lightning in his latter years? Always wondered if he did in the comics...

@alphaq: He's never used lightning in the comics, I don't see any reason why he couldn't have learned to use lightning at some point though

@arcus Hmm, bit of a shame really, I always suspected Zuko was left out compared to Katara, Toph and of course Aang in terms of potential. They still had loads of ways to advance after the series, because of their greater power, and they could reach the same heights of the other premiere benders of the series (Katara had plenty of power, Toph could probably have matched Bumi and Aang was the avatar), but Zuko didn't have either the raw power or the subsets (like lightning, lavabending or metalbending) that are available to others.

@alphaq: yeah, it kinda felt like that. Course he'd solo them all without even trying without bending

@arcus Yeah, he's got physicality nailed down. Do you think that Zuko has a speed edge over the most characters, seeing as he could react to lightning? Kinda seemed like if he could have reacted like he did to save Katara he should be speedblitzing people in Katara's speed class, who aren't really that physical.

@alphaq: he's definately fast, but I wouldn't say speedblitz fast. Lightning's really not that hard to react to in Avatar

Zuko's fighting style is different though. Focused and powerful, while also being light on his feat at least at the end of the series.

A case can be made for both, but I'll side with Zaheer here due to his speed and agility advantage. And the fact he could hang in with Tenzin decently. Not only that, but he beats his opponents by breaking their connection from the ground like you've mentioned before. He also beat Kya who I believe is roughly around Zuko's level and other than that, I don't believe an attack really hit him enough to stop him.

So Zaheer for a slim majority.

@arcus: I'll say stalemate for that. While Zuko could shoot Zaheer from the air, Zaheer's very, very fast, and it's not like Zuko's blasts are going to change Zaheer's path of direction when Zaheer's coming at him head on.

Damn, this is probably the closest battle between two avatar characters with different elements I've ever seen. I'm gonna say Zuko bc I'm a massive Zuko fanboy, but this could go either way
