Doctor Strange from different points in the character's history battle to see at which point in time Doc Strange had the most powerful potential. The battle is between Strange fused with the power of Zom and Black Mage Strange from Strange Tales II when he stopped using white magic. With both at hypothetical full power, does Zom Strange or Black Mage Strange win in an all out battle to the death?

Strange as black magician had far higher potential and would beat Zom Strange without much trouble.

1. I know nothing about BM strange but i would assume its regular strange but just using black magic. using Zom qualifies as using BM.... and Strange own skills combined with a hell lord... which is a being with much more raw magical power (consideing he isnt human)... i would assume he would win with Zom.

Black mage Strange is the real Dr. Strange. Ever since he became Sorcerer Supreme, he altered every other Steven Strange that becomes a sorcerer as his clone. One of the clones became somewhat of a bad guy (it was the masked Dr. Strange who has his own line of comics. When the two Stranges meet, it will tell you a story why Dr. Strange created multiple clones of himself.... To make a long Story short... It was because he was using the clones to confuse Dormammu.

So the real Dr. Strange was the one who in the beginning became Sorcerer Supreme for the 1st time and later was the witness when the multiverse was recreated by Siseneg.

Well when he fought Shuma , Stephen has wings of Needless sorrow, that just becomes unfair when you think about it as the item can and will absorb every mystic attack thrown his way.

Also when you can enter Chaos Dimension itself and beat Shuma, there aren't many characters that can stand against you in that form.

The power of Zom drew attention from the Living Tribunal. Nobody that high up cared about black mage Strange. Strange with full access to the potential of Zom would be way more devastating.

@ohgawd:

It wasn't nothing to do with power, but rather because it would open the magic ability of people on Earth, which scary the LT.

And was in his first appearances when he wasn't even one of the most powerful abstract either.

People seriously underestimate Black Mage Doctor Strange (and Shuma-Gorath's power during his second coming for that matter). Doctor Strange fully embracing his dark side in Strange Tales Vol 2 is easily him at his most powerful.

Let's look at what Doctor Strange had to work with by the time he fought Shuma-Gorath in his chaos dimension.

1) Tutoring in the ways of black magic from the Ancient One's old rival, Kaluu. This would likely include spells from Chthon's Darkhold.

2) Doctor Strange's own personal powers of the mind/soul/body.

3) Victoria Bentley's magic potential. This is significant because her magic potential was so high that Strange's rival Baron Mordo plotted to have her killed after seeing her as a threat if she ever learned to use her magic.

4) Dark magic from Shuma-Gorath's agent, the Old One Ghaszaszh Nyirh. Nyirh destroyed Strange's eyeball with a ray of energy from its eyes and Kaluu managed to contain it within Strange's body.

5) The full power and essence of Shuma-Gorath's Lieutenant, Arioch. His power was "infinite" which allowed him to be as powerful as his imagination would allow. Kaluu could not even reach Arioch's realm as the dimension below it had a powerful aura that was killing him. This is a guy who was able to spend 500+ years within the dimension of Raggador, a member of the Octessence of which Cyttorak is a part of.

6) The full power of the Wings of Needless Sorrow. This artifact was created by the demonic Old Ones and allowed the user to absorb and redirect various energies. To have an idea of how powerful this artifact is, Dormammu fully manifested on Earth and took possession of Doctor Strange's physical body, having his own personal power + Doc Strange's power, and fought Doctor Strange while he possessed the body of a rat and had no magic to protect himself with, just the Wings of Needless Sorrow. Using only the Wings, Strange was able to repel Dormammu's magical attacks and redirect a banishment spell that summoned Clea and allowed them to exorcise Dormy from Strange's body. This was only using a snippet of the WONS's power. Strange was holding himself back from using the Wings to eat Dormammu completely because he had just purified himself from Shuma-Gorath's energy and did not want to go down the dark path again. Aside from this, Strange was able to use the WONS to forcefully merge with Arioch's essence and drain Shuma-Gorath of his power as they battled in his realm - this is even said by Shuma-Gorath on panel. Sise-Neg near the end of his journey of absorbing all the magical energy in Marvel didn't even dare fight Shuma-Gorath for fear of losing some of his accumulated energy, and yet Black Mage Strange was gobbling it up.

Shuma-Gorath at this time was written to be pretty damn powerful, as you can see from the level of power Strange possessed and how difficult it still was to defeat him. Shuma was already known by this point to be bitter foes with the Vishanti. It's also shown afterwards that Shuma-Gorath's attack on Earth from 1,000 planes away in Strange Tales Vol 2 was a large factor in weakening the elder god Gaea to the point where Strange could barely sense her presence.

Zom Strange would come nowhere close to Black Mage Strange as seen at the end of Strange Tales Vol 2.

Shuma-Gorath is > Zom

I would place Zom at near equal grounds as Slorioth during the 7 Sphere War and Shuma-Gorath slightly above the Vishanti as a whole group.

Zom = Slorioth

Slorioth > Elder Gods combined

Elder Gods = Celestials the whole race combined

Vishanti > Elder Gods by a huge margin

Shuma-Gorath > Vishanti
