A combination of both. Like one guy said about the military and reading comics as a passtime, ppl who like comics tend to also like martial arts and other related elements of a comic story.

Probably the first. Most people, especially grown–ups wouldn't lie about stuff like this, especially if no one hear will ever meet them. So what's the point of lying.
