You could /maybe/ make an argument that Ben's has shown sufficient strength of will and determination in the past that he might be able to resist a low powered, or very inexperienced telepath, It's a bit of a stretch but I think /that/ might be debatable. Even then he just doesn't have any defense against someone of X-Man's level of ability.

I think poor Ben can be under estimated and unappreciated a lot these days, but this just is not a fight he can win.
