DC: Constantine, Midnighter
Marvel: Reed, Doom, Strange
Others: The Doctor
@masterkungfu: agreed
I like how some people can't answer the question without saying "herp derp not Batman" the question isn't "Who's the worst at prep among these choices" it's "Who's the best as prep?" I know Batman can really overshadow other characters at times but I didn't know it was to the point he had to always be singled out.
To answer the question though I'll go with Thanos.
@jack_donaghy: The question might not be "Who's the worst at prep?" But that's like saying the question was not "Who dies first in a physical fight between Hulk, Silver Surfer , Thor and. .........Captain America"
One of these characters is so far out of his league here, it would be remiss to not mention just how badly he's going to perform, especially when other people state, without a hint of irony ( or actual feats for that matter), that said character is going to win
Batman does not "overshadow" anything. You could replace batman with say..... Will Magnus to name but one character, and people will obliged to point out that he's just way out of his league here

Please, when you think about it none of the characters listed are even in Thanos' league yet no one has said "Why is Constantine here?" And lol at you exaggerating with the Cap being placed among Hulk, Silver Surfer and Thor hypothetical. Cap is nowhere near those characters physically whereas Batman's prep is at least on the level of someone like Constantine. If Batman doesn't have impressive prep feats why are people always crying about him beating Superman, the JL and other major threats. If Batman's the big bad Batgod who never loses then surely his feats stack up to the others. This is just another case of butthurt haters taking shots at Batman which has become this forums favorite pastime.
Batman's more impressive showings of prep. tends to rely on PIS and plot devices.
The Doctor seems to almost purely rely on plot devices.
Thanos' seems to rely on PIS.
Constantine's most impressive prep feats seem to rely on his House(which amounts to a plot device).
And Doom, while seemingly less reliant on PIS and plot devices than the others, tends to fall to his own arrogance regardless of how good his prep is.
That said, with no calling on allies, Batman has no way to deal with magic. Which means that he has no way to deal with Doom and Constantine, and possibly Thanos(who does have some knowledge of the mystical arts).
The Doctor doesn't even know that magic exists, which puts him in much the same boat as Batman.
Thanos is a bit of a wildcard, since he is, without prep, so stupidly superior to everyone else.
Which leaves us with Constatine and Doom(and the wildcard).
Given Doom's tendency to fall to his own arrogance, I would give that one to Constantine. Especially because Constantine is the kind of guy who would be able to use Doom's arrogance against him, and essentially get Doom to take himself out. Without the arrogance, Doom would take it easily.
Nope.
@hatemalingsia: Lol, I said Batman and not the Doctor... Oops.
Doom or Thanos. Guess we'll find out when Doom decides to take on the Cabal....whenever that is.
Doom's better at prep because he's weaker than Thanos. Thanos is better WITH prep, because he's stronger than Doom.
That's my take.
Oh lord.
If this is a battle to see who would actually win overall against one another, with prep, then Thanos. He is way beyond their power levels, exponentially so, at the very outset of this contest, as access to items of cosmic power far beyond any of their ken, and is give all the same advantages? (i.e. prep time).
C'mon peeps.
Doom comes in a distant second. After which, well, who cares really.
Hm....I really expected a lot more John Constantine here. I mean, isn't his prep abilities legendary on Comic Vine? I mean, even in a thread between John and Thanos, it seemed that the consensus was that John would win.
I'd say Doom or Batman with actual prepping but obviously Thanos is they were meeting each other face to face.

exactly my thoughts, it´s either Thanos or Constantine
The best are Doom and T'Challa. They have prepped and maintained whole nations. It's pretty incredible to think about.
