Actually he is canon. Gouki just hasn't reached that level in the story yet.

Not only is it not canon, but Asura also never used his more powerful forms in that fight. You know, like the one that moves at FTL speeds and dwarfs the Earth.

@juzacloud: Oni is a what if character. Oni is what happens to Akuma if he let the Satsui no Hado completely take over him. He hasn't done it therefore the character doesn't truly exist.

The possibly does exist, therefore Oni is a canon transformation that just hasn't been reached yet.

If I create ButtFart Man and there is a legendary transformation in which he needs to inhale all the farts from people on earth to turn into Hyper ButttFart Man, but never achieves it doesn't mean Hyper isn't canon.

Also, SF5 is on the way. We should wait and see if gouki is Oni now.

He will be. He's the most versatile shoto. If not in the initial roster, then a unlockable character.

I don't think you really understand the definition of canon.

In Mortal Kombat 9, Liu Kang defeated Shao Kahn, and the Elder Gods made him a fire god in order to take on Raiden since he was compromised. Under your definition of canon, Liu Kang's "fire god" transformation would be considered canon. It is not.

The only way a "what-if" scenario should be considered in this context, is if the character in question does something in said "what- if" scenario under their own power. No power ups, no transformations, just them doing something they are already capable of. Oni is a theoretical representation to Akuma at his peak if he were to truly become a demon, just a Evil Ryu is a theoretical representation of Ryu if he were to fall completely to the dark hadou.

You are right though, that we should wait to see where the story goes in SF5 so that we can know what is and is not canon going forward.

Hey, does anyone know if SF5 takes place AFTER SF3? Or is this after 4, but before 3. If this is after 3, I really hope they tie up all (some) of the loose ends in both SF4 and SF3.
