What is an Anti-Brick?

An Anti-Brick is a character who present a bad fighting match up for Brick Level Characters. Characters whose powers focus on strength & durability: characters like The Thing, Namor, The Brick, She Hulk, Grey Hulk, Hercules, Sasquatch, Savage Dragon, King Shark, Mammoth, etc.

When I say Anti-Brick, I do not think of characters who use TP, Magic, and Hax

Abilities. I mean characters like Wolverine, Cyclops, Havok, Black Panther, Batman(?) , etc. Characters who's powers, skills, speed, and gear make them well suited to take down a Brick in a straight up sort of fight.

Who are some of your favorite Anti Bricks?

Who is the best Anti Brick?

What makes a good Anti Brick?

  1. Black panther, wolverine and batman
  2. Probably wolverine. He can hurt almost any brick, he stays together due to adamantium, and his healing factor lets him take damage and keep fighting
  3. Damage output with some combination of skill. Some damage soak abilities help a lot.

A good anti brick usually has the combination of a form of damage output that directly counter's a bricks high level of blunt force soaking capabilties(This is why Wolverine's stabbing damage output with his adimantium claws make him such a good anti brick), the ability to soak the damage output the brick dishes out(Usually blunt force), and as a supplementary addition, better skill and speed than the brick so as to land more damage than they have to take themselves.

Black Panther, Wolverine, and X-23 pop to mind when I think of talented anti bricks.

Daredevil is potientally a good choice. Midnighter. Some of the less impressive Jedi who could be classed as street level could be pretty decent due their lightsabers. Punisher with prep. Blade.

Has gambit ever blown someone up as durable as luke cage even? I don't think we can assume he can blow people like namor up if he's never blown someone as durable as namor up....

Cap, Batman, Black Manta, Daredevil, Spider-Man, Deathstoke, Punisher.

Daredevil isn't an anti-brick. I guess punisher and deathstroke can depending on gear. I wouldn't call cap an anti-brick despite a few odd showings.

1. Flash, Booster Gold, Batman, and Wolverine

2. Booster Gold isn't the BEST anti-brick, but I figured nobody would think of him so I decided to post him.

3. Something that make a good anti-brick are damage soaking (like BG's shields) and entrapment powers (again, like BG's shields) and then obviously versatility and good damage output.

An anti-brick is classified, IMO, by the ability to deal damage to bricks without taking threatening damage to themselves. This means that they must be fast, durable, or agile enough to avoid massive damage, and have either enough output or an ability that allows them to bypass durability. Because of this, teleporters like Blink are ideal for being anti bricks.

@lukehero my list of favorite Anti-Bricks in no particular order

  • Black Canary
  • Zealot
  • Nemesis
  • Wolverine
  • Dazzler
  • Havok
  • Ghost

What defines an Anti-Brick to me is a character who's abilities/gear let them damage outside their weight class and have a way to circumvent the traditional strengths of a 'brick' character; strength and/or durability. Since most bricks aren't known for their speed, that isn't as much of an issue as in other categories in different match ups.

Great answers everyone. I will say with the right gear characters like Punisher & Slade could be good anti bricks. I don't think DD is really a good answer, he doesn't really use the type of gear you would need to take down a Brick.

Street Level Jedi are a great answer as well as they have lightsabers. I think Boba Fett is an Anti Brick as well. He seems to have the weapons and gear to take down a decent Brick.

I like the Mention of Ghost, Black Canary, and Zealot too.

Who are some other unconventional Anti Bricks?

Warblade(Wildcats)

Lady Deathstrike

Banshee

Who else?

Thanks for the great answers.

1.As everyone been saying Wolverine & Blackpanther.

2. I'm not sure if he belongs here but I'm gonna go with Vision, with his density abilities he can bypass a lot of bricks, if he's too high on the tier list then its Wolverine.

@stormmagician: Well Wolverine is probably the best Anti Brick. Vision is more of a low level powerhouse, not the sort of street level/low mid tier thing I was looking for.

@lukehero: People who use telefrag or teleslice are ideal anti-bricks, because they are difficult to tag, and can remove limbs and heads with ease. AoA Nightcrawler could arguably take some like thing by porting his head off.

@jashro44: It's in Shaw's powerset to absorb kinetic energy. Gambit's the generator, and he was essentially the battery.

And the most durable person Gambit charged, at least off the top of my head, was Rockslide.

His tech kind of varies. IIRC he once blew up shaggy mans arms before (I'll need to reread but I think it was around issue 25 of Morrison's run) and he has some other showings with his tech. Gas is something which can work on some bricks.

He also Blew up a group of Doomsday Clones. Freeze Capsules would work, Knock Out Gas(which he mentioned), Sonic Batarangs, etc...

Mobility combined with armour piercing

If you gave Quicksilver and Speed Demon something as simple as a sharp knife they would be beastly.

@dextersinister: Good Answer.

Both characters are supposed to have trained excessively in martial arts to have been able to attain devastating techniques that go beyond their human limitations to be able to hit and hurt Superman level beings. Having martial arts skills, agility and a good amount of speed has proven to be highly effective against bricks. For example look at Thor's run in with Wolverine, Spider-Man, etc.

@evil_incarnate: I agree, but I was looking for more street level-low mid tier characters. Nothing higher than a Quicksilver, Gorgon, Agent Venom type level. Gamorra & Midnighter are great anti bricks, but they like Mantis & KK are not the level of tier I was looking to discuss.

He is a kind of Karate Kid :

He find weaknesses in indestructible things and crack them.
He is a glass canon.
I guess that he can damage some bricks like he did with the Thing.
