Thor Vs Thanos

Hey, can someone explain me what's going on with this scan?  
 
  It looks like Thor is casually smacking around Thanos. What's going on here?

From which issue is that? Because I read the Infinity Gauntlet saga but don't remember seeing that there.

And how is even Eric being thanos with IG?? he has IG on the pic.

thanos turned off all the gems accept for the power gem so the fight would be almost fair

so thanos doesn't see thor coming and thor gets in some lucky shots

the scan doesn't really matter because the next page thanos kills thor

The scan is from Infinity Gauntlet #4. The purple woman is Terraxia (she kills Spiderman, BTW, as well as Iron Man). Thanos created her with the Gauntlet in an attempt to make Mistress Death jealous (it didn't work). The Thor is Eric Masterson Thor. Thanos was restricting his abilities at the time in an attempt to show off in front of Mistress Death and impress her (also didn't work). Immediately afterwards he turns Thor into glass, then kills Nova, then smashes Thor. Oh, then he kills Quasar with no difficulty. I have a theory that Jim Starlin and Mark Gruenwald were having some sort of competition over who could create the more cosmic story arc at the time (I think it's obvious Starlin won, since hardly anyone knows or cares about the Maelstrom arc).

Because Drax was created to kill Thanos, he is basically his kryptonite.

Plus Giffen Drax is awesome. Bladesey goodness.

@Morpheus_: While that's absolutely true, Giffen Drax decapitated Marvel's version of Lobo and it's implied he killed him for good.

They got his HeroClix backwards. The experienced version has a better accuracy value while the veteran does more damage.

Why were his blades so effective? I've heard conflicing reports. Some say they're regular hunting knives and it's bad writing, but others have claimed he dipped them in some alien chemical.

I'd be lying if I said I remember, so I'll have to go back and reread it. The various Annihilation minis are a blur to me for the most part, since it's been quite a while since I read them. Loved the series, though.

@Morpheus_: Giffen usually does good stuff. I LOVED his Defenders 6-issue mini. JLI was hilarious. And of course, he co-created Lobo.
