Morals off? I think he at least makes it to Darkseid, who if we're talking New 52 Darkseid, he definitely holds the advantage over.
His feats at the end of his mini lead me to believe he could clear. Hal and Sinestro could be a minor inconvenience, but if amped Alan couldn't generate enough light to put down Ophidian, who is inferior to Shade, I can write Prometheus's one-off incident (which didn't even kill Shade) as WiS. So the two Lanterns, as much as they can do, probably can't even come close to putting him down.
@supermanwithatan01: I'm not sure the extent of what he's done in the New-52, to be honest. But can he escape a pocket dimension like the one Swift trapped those sun gods in?
@dondave: I thought a little more about them, and what are they going to do to prevent Shade from porting out of their necks and strangling/decapitating them both right off the bat?
For those generally unaware, here're some of Shade's showings and feats.
Erects an impenetrable city wide force-field.
Scoffs at Nerons' offer to enhance his power.
When heroes started losing their powers due to the destruction of The Source-Wall, Shade retained his, while it was stated that “Many whose powers are kissed by God have seen their powers die… that’s true. Of course there are those whose powers God wants nothing to do with”:
Been mentioned by Dr. Fate that "even The Spectre would have difficulty beating him", and summoning shadow-mass large enough in scale to devour asteroids and small planets.
Exhibits intangibility, the ability to BFR enemies to the dark-dimension, and teleporting(which he's done several times besides).
And can conjure just about any construct or creature he can imagine via his powers. Creatures which are fully sentient, if he wishes them to be so.
Plus, he's more or less totally immortal, though that doesn't have much bearing on a fight(unless the stipulations are exclusively "win by death").
First, the matter of Hal/Sinestro (and all light-using opponents):
1. The amount of light it took to break even one of Nightshade's constructs. Nightshade is a shadow-manipulator inferior to The Shade's level of power.
2. Richard is shot by one of Saint Walker's light constructs while Shade is under Eclipso's dark control. It penetrates his "flesh", but does no noticeable damage to him.
3. The amount of light it took for Alan Scott to fight Obsidian.
4. Shade can exert control over other shadow users, he's also generally considered more powerful than Obsidian
5. Ian Karkull notes Shade as an immortal, also confirming that all shadow-users in the DCU are cut from the same cloth. Thus, feats from other shadow-users (Nightshade, Bette Noir, Obsidian, Shadow-Thief, etc...) should be applicable (also see Jack Knight's meeting with Shadow Lass in the future during Starman).
Doubtful that Hal or Sinestro can even try to zap a bloodlusted Richard before he does one of the following:
This goes double for any other round up until Nekron, imo.
If we're talking New 52 version, I'd think that would negate most of his high-end feats (ie: the one against a weaker iteration of The Spectre). I'm going to have to get to my home PC before I can upload scans from Shade's mini. But seriously, the guy trapped two Egyptian light deities. I don't see how Nekron can kill him. Heck, not even his Black Lanterns could claim Swift, try as they did:
At best, it's a stalemate. Burden of proof would fall on Nekron, I guess.
@supermanwithatan01: It took a lot of power on Alan's part to stop Obsidian in the JSA series. I'm not sure even that much energy could completely dispel The Shade. He's far more creative with his powers than Alan's son was.
That being said, I recall a CV debate where people weren't sure if Swift could kill a Starheart Alan either.
Now vs. the New-52 Alan, it'd be a big win for The Shade. New-Alan doesn't have the feats that his pre-boot namesake did.
@supermanwithatan01: Of course! Thanks for the interesting gauntlet concept! Since I'm going off of memory and what scans I have saved from a couple years back, I definitely recommend picking up Starman and Shade's miniseries to read and judge for yourself. Same goes for Johns's run on JSA, though Shade only cameos in a few issues of it, iirc.
He's definitely come a long way from just being an old dude with a magic cane in the Golden Age, lol. If memory serves me right, one of his later writers pulled a clever retcon where Shade stated that all of his low-showings in the Golden Age were just because he was bored after living for centuries and had more fun messing with Jay Garrick and letting himself get caught. :p
