Nygma has a whole entire year to research, plan against, and set up a situation which the Man of Steel cannot win.

A win for Nygma simply has to be a "win" in his situation. EX: Metropolis explodes. Superman lives, but millions die.

If Riddler is able to take out Superman, that's just bonus points.

Begins with his mind and Zero Year connections only. One entire year to set up and plan.
