Well to be Fair, In AvX Magneto Fought Iron Man and summon Planetary Magnetic powers using jupiters Magneto Sphere to do a Ubber Move, now if he can do that Couldnt he hang with Thanos?
Thanos can and has beaten Avengers roster on his own that included : Beast, Scarlet Witch (to be fair she was lot less powerful then as compared to now), Thor, Adam Warlock, Captain America, Moondragon, Vision, Captain Marvel and Beast during Marvel Two in One Annual 02 (1977), the scans are below for you to see.

Also to site his beat feat yet, he has fought and beaten The Rot , the child of Lady death (and Thanos, that sadly makes him a son killer) and his blast was said to make the entire universe scream, during Avengers Celestial Quest, 08 (2002)
Fights and kills ROT an abstract level being, the son of Lady Death and Thanos, and the full blast from thanos apparently "Makes the universe scream"

More specifically i am referring to this particular scan (second last in the list above)
I am not going to lie, my knowledge of Magneto is fairly limited but i would honestly be surprised if Magneto's feats are stats are even close to as good as Thanos (i have read every publication of Marvel about Thanos including all his appearance his bios, writers commentary in Marvel Saga) at his best (note no power up, this are feats he performed without any sort of amps like cosmic cube, infinity gauntlet or heart of the universe).
Also even the fight you are referring to, Magneto actually lost didnt he.

Yeah he did lose although that fight was utter bs on a whole lot of levels. That summoning crap being obvious.
