Thanos' goal is to eliminate the concept of love from the Marvel Universe. He has the rest of his lifetime to accomplish this goal. He may use any means neccesary.

How does one eliminate love?

Can it be eliminated?

Mistress Love can get involved, but she doesn't know about Thanos' schemes.

Would be easier to do it in the DCU... just saying.

Thanos takes 10min to get the Infinity Gauntlet back together, snaps his fingers, and removes the concept of Love along with Mistress Love from existence.

Doesn't he love death?

#5 Edited by reikai (4095 posts) - - Show Bio

@russellmania77: He does, but with the IG he's God so he can make himself immune to his own decree. Then step outside the universe into the Nexus of All Realities and technically Love would not exist in the universe itself.

He cannot, he needs LT to remove his seal on the Gems to make them work together.

@overlordarhas: Apparently they retconned that. Or whatever. The latest writers on it have all been complete morons and had it working again. He can do the same thing with just the Reality Gem anyway.

Man, they did a Vince Screw Job on Warlock. As for Reality Gem, Is it not dangerous to use without the rest.

@killemall any thoughts about this topic.

@overlordarhas: While they did retcon the LT ban on Infinity Gem in the Illumaniti series 2007, 616 universe no longer even has an infinity gauntlet, it was broken during New Avengers 03 when Captain America used it to push away the incursion. Only one gem is still intact, and thats time gem, which currently is in possession of Dr. Strange, how he came to possess it is yet to be explained.

Given enough prep time, having to kill a universe abstract, who isnt even one of the prime abstract, nor one that necessarily has big feats, shouldnt really be a huge job for him. Ok Infinity Gauntlet is out, a cosmic cube might still work, then there is a Ultimate Nullifier on Earth which he could use as well.

#13 Posted by reikai (4095 posts) - - Show Bio

@overlordarhas: Thanos has shown he could use the Reality Gem without the others and not tear the universe a new backdoor by accident. He was the only one who could even be trusted to hold it.

@killemall: As the last and only possessor of the HotU, he is probably the only one who could even recall it after scattering its energy, and probably only said it'd be impossible to do to keep anyone else from trying to acquire it.

Thanos actually feels love. Therefore he cannot destroy it, since he's averse to destroying any part of himself.

Thanos hears this song, and instantly abandons his quest.

Lover?

Also, except for time, space, war, divorces, break ups, and big giant guns, yes. Yes it does.

@killemall:

Can Thanos properly use a cosmic egg?

#23 Edited by Killemall (18255 posts) - - Show Bio

@overlordarhas: He is never specifically used a cosmic egg before. But cosmic egg isnt something here new though, its just a large collection of cosmic cubes together, like what Goddess did with 30 cosmic cubes. Thanos has used cosmic cube before, twice, so he shouldnt have problem using one.

I think its prudent to think Thanos would be happy with one cosmic cube rather than go looking for a whole lot to create a cosmic egg.

#24 Edited by OverLordArhas (7571 posts) - - Show Bio

@killemall:

So one Cosmic Cube is enough for this task?

#25 Posted by reikai (4095 posts) - - Show Bio

@killemall: Magus had to use a Cosmic Cube to rez and empower Thanos' original body that'd been turned to stone, to get the Thanos Doppelganger to string together Seven Cosmic Cube so he could screw around with multiple alternate universes. Basically, Magus doesn't have the smarts to do it himself. He needed a Thanos.

I'd Write It Like This. After a particularly disappointing massacre, Thanos feels that he will never win enough of Death's love to match his love for her, never total devotion to rival his own. He leaves Death's side, despondent. Used to treating the universe's constants as his peers, he goes on a Starlin-esque rampage to destroy Love herself as vengeance, a quest for some cosmic device or another designed for that very purpose. On the way, he mixes it up with everyone from old foes like Adam Warlock and the Silver Surfer to a bewildered and outmatched Spider-Man, with each battle book-ended by tales of love and loss in the lives of Thanos's foes. An Englehart-ian romance tale between two incidentally involved normal human characters runs through the entire book, mirroring Thanos's own despair and desire. Finally, Thanos gets his hand on the doohickey he needs, and after temporarily besting some of the cosmos' most powerful beings, he holds the mortal Macguffin to Love's throat. But a spectral hand stays his own. It is Death, and she does not wish this. Why, she does not - cannot? - will not? - say. But it is enough for Thanos. He opens his hand. The device falls to the ground. As he disappears, arm in arm with Death, a sneer crosses his face. Or is it a smile? Even Uatu, the Watcher, does not know.

How else would you interpret that scan. A shinny gem appears out of no where on Dr. Strange hand, the issue immediately after we see one of the gem vanish.

What else did you think that was?

Thats not the infinity gem. Thats the beacon informing strange that there is an incursion (next page after shows the new avengers at an incursion). All the members of the Illuminati have that device.

I am not sure how the Marvel universe side works on this matter but to remove love from the DC universe would require that you control or remove the idea from everyone who believes in it which is next to impossible as it requires that you effect those that are in the afterlife.

You can kill the abstract no problem but it will just come back in some form or another.
