@arcus: tenzin has little to no feats, he only stomped(argueably) zaheer.

Though i say tenzin, zaheer proved how dangerous an airbender can be.

Yes, more powerful and versatile with the large amount of water in both rounds. But Tenzin is more agile and skilled enough with airbending to dodge / fan her initial attack away. If he goes on the offensive before she can bend a large amount of water, he can win this.

Katara's raw bending power was insane. But Tenzin was so badass against Zaheer...damn i dont know this one. Ill say katara because of how they treated bending in ATLA compared to TLOK. Tenzin would need more feats to be sure, and we only have the Zaheer vs Tenzin fight. But damn, that was a cool fight.

Have we actually seen a master waterbender fight a master airbender? I think those are two elements that haven't been tested against each other.

@arcus: In round 1 Tenzin's raw power and agility will prove a major problem, and the fact that Katara does not have the access to the volume of water for huge attacks but her wide range and versatility will prove a major problem

In round 2, even with powerful air blasts and agility, flash freeze and ice spikes etc as well as the vast amount of water would prove too much.

@thunderbolt30: any reasons? @juiceboks: closest was Zaheer vs Kya or Zaheer vs Tonraq, but yeah, those elements never fought much. It would have been cool

@arcus: I wouldn't really consider Zaheer a master level airbender since he didn't show any of the moves other masters like Tenzin and Aang could perform in battle. Zaheer was pretty basic when it came to combat.

Tenzin due to experience and damage soak I mean he took head sized rocks and ice to the face with ease and he's faster (reaction )

Actually I change my answer. Tenzin is more skilled, more experienced, faster, and has insane AoE. He wins both rounds.

Tenzin, because he's sort of like the Mike Tyson of airbending, also because Katara will fight a bit too conservative at the start.

Round 2 - Tie.

Why do you think tie for round 2?

If you look at the Azula vs. Katara fight of the finale, Katara actually ran away from one of Azula's lightning strikes. She also is able to parry Azula's fire strikes with her own water and she's able to surf on water as well.

She can finally subdue Azula with an icicle of water.

While Tenzin has better ranged attacks and his attacks at a distance will be more powerful, he's also faster. Not only that, but he can leap in the air while he's striking (I believe). If Tenzin get's too close, I believe Katara could manage to freeze Tenzin up in a large structure and get out, but Tenzin's experienced and agile and he won't get too close unless he has to. They'll each give each other a run for each-other's money but I can't see a definite winner.

Also, we don't really have much feats on any of Tenzin's experience as an airbending master. All we have is this:

I never took Tenzin to be particularly agile for an airbender. He certainly wasn't Azula or Aang fast imo. Nothing Katara hasn't seen/fought before. How does Katara hold back more than Tenzin? Id say she has more power and potential, but he has that old master wisdom edge. I think its a draw round 1 leaning slightly towards Katara, they are prettily evenly matched imo. Tenzin roflstomped Zaheer, but Zaheer only had a few months/weeks with airbending so it shouldn't be that surprising. Katara mastered waterbending in a few short weeks and continued to improve all the way until the end of book three (and probably after that) becoming a full blown powerhouse. Neither has extensive experience fighting each others element. Bloodlusted Katara is no joke, and with that much ice/water to work with she is hella scary. She should take a solid majority round 2.
