No prep, morals off, start 50 feet away in the geonosian pit
Tenzin, end of season 3, son of Aang
Iroh, The dragon of the west, end of season 3 the last airbender

I'd put my hat in for Tenzin. He has some impressive airbending feats and is vastly faster and more mobile than Iroh ever showed. Iroh's attacks are more lethal due to the nature of their elements, but I feel the versatility of air more than makes up for that.
It'd be a good fight, but in the end I just don't see Iroh tagging Tenzin, where as Tenzin shouldn't have much difficulty repeatedly tagging Iroh.
IROH.
FIRE>>AIR.
The elements have no strict advantages, only better practitioners.
Actually, they do. Im gonna assume you've never lived in a village and have never had to rely on firewood for a source of heat to cook food.
If you had, you'd no that when the flame becomes weaker you fan it (thus: "providing air") to make the flame burn more ferociously.

...You do realize we're talking about a fictional children's show, right?
Fire doesn't beat air. It depends on the bender.
OH, so thats what you meant.
but, the thing is Irohs fire/lightning attacks are more powerful than Tenzins wind attacks (which by nature are not lethal).
@jacthripper: you can't tell me you don't respect Tenzin after his fight with the Red Lotus
@arcus: I have respect for him as a combatant, not as a character. That was his only bad@ss moment in the entire show. Iroh had character development, and he made me cry in that one episode.
Tenzin is definitely more agile, but Iroh's packing more power. Iroh's major disadvantage is that he's only gone up against Aang maybe once or twice, and that's his only experience fighting an airbender. Tenzin, on the other hand, would have plenty of experience fighting firebenders.
Tenzin for the majority, but if Iroh breaks out the lightning, anything goes.
@jacthripper: fair enough
Tenzin. Schooling Zaheer is a better feat than Iroh has, and hype can only take him so far (we know he's better than Zuko, but by how much? In what ways?).
@mial42: I agree so much. Iroh is easily my second favorite character in either series but the vast majority of what we know his battles and skill is through word of mouth, legends and hype. I'm going Tenzin
@jacthripper: y’all are Iroh fan boys Cause Tenzin had better feats The most impressive Iroh feat was During Sozin comet show me some Iroh gifs that’s so powerful

Same Tenzin has better feats, Iroh get more vote cause of notoriety and favoritism.

crazy to think i've been on and off this site for 8 years.
i know i made this thread but: iroh has some underrated feats. in book one he took out some earthbenders without even bending. he was literally out earthbending earthbenders just with a chain. he catches a boulder in midair with a chain. that is insane
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAuRvX4Phpg
in book two he takes out the rough rinos without even bending either. the man doesn't bend unless he's serious. he also dodges the yuyan archer's arrows with a roll. he's agile as fuck, he just doesn't make unnecessary movements.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHS-ro8xukU
notice that iroh is a particularly tactical fighter. he often uses the opponent's moves against them, and he's very good at targeting the enemy's weakness, such as earthbender's legs and the mount's legs
i never specified if it was book 3 ripped iroh or not, but yeah he did the above two while he was fat af. if this is ripped iroh he's even more agile
and yes, tenzin could have taken out the above fodder, that's absolutely true. but could he have done it without bending? with the same ease? if iroh hand bended in those fights, it would have just been over immediately and i think iroh wanted some entertainment
