Tech Bracket Battle # 8 of 8: Armor (high power)

#1 Posted by Owie (2719 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago - Show Bio

This is a bracket battle using High-Powered Armor.

This is the last of eight bracket-style battles involving technology.  The first battle was Androids, the second was Low-Powered Robots, the third was Medium-Power Robots, the fourth was High-Powered Robots, the fifth was Cyborgs, and the sixth was Low-Powered Armor, and the seventh was Medium-Powered Armor.

They each start out in pairs, battling each other. Once each battle is done, they move on to the next battle, as stipulated by the brackets. The last one is the Big Winner!

Who wins each battle in each round?

These battles take place in an empty Wal-Mart parking lot.  Each fight starts at 15’.

Win by any means. Each participant is completely re-energized and repaired before each new battle. Morals off, but otherwise in character. They will not run out of power or anything like that. They all have all their normal powers/abilities/armaments, EXCEPT THAT NO CHARACTER CAN USE ANY KIND OF "CONTROL METAL" OR "CONTROL TECHNOLOGY" POWERS TO CONTROL OTHER CHARACTERS, USE EMPs, OR AUTOMATICALLY DRAIN OTHER CHARACTERS' ENERGY, OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. This is about beating each other up and/or outsmarting each other.

Character links/versions:
(Unless otherwise noted, all characters are their most recent versions.  All armors/characters have their standard weapons. )

Iron Man ( Bleeding Edge), Booster Gold (pre-52), Douglock (current Warlock wrapped around current Doug; cannot drain life force/energy), Doom's version of the Destroyer (which he wore as armor, and didn't use as an independent robot) (power source cannot be severed in this fight), Iron Patriot, Guardian (James Hudson, classic suit), Titanium Man, Iron Monger (Stane), Crimson Dynamo, Vindicator (Heather Hudson, current), Iron Lad, Noh-Varr (who does not exactly wear armor, I suppose, but his general localized tech has the same effect), Firepower (second version), Robotech VF-1 (not exactly armor, but I'm using it anyway), War Machine, Blue Beetle (Jaime, pre-52).

PLEASE SAY WHO YOU THINK WILL WIN EACH FIGHT IN EACH ROUND! I know not everyone is familiar with every character, it's OK if you have to guess a bit.

The Bracket:

High-Powered Armor

Iron Man (Bleeding Edge)
Booster Gold
Douglock
Doom-powered Destroyer
Iron Patriot
Guardian
Titanium Man
Iron Monger
Crimson Dynamo
Vindicator
Iron Lad
Noh-Varr
Firepower
Robotech VF-1
War Machine
Blue Beetle

I think in the end Doom will win it. You could also have put Luthor in the mix, but then luthor would have lost to Destroyer armor Doom to.

Considering he beat Thor to near death, I think Doom will take this in the end. I'll try to get back with a more detailed breakdown later.

Man your threads deserve a lot of respect !

Sometimes I check it...but I don't reply because I don't know all the opponents. But Now it's not the case !

I don't know why Destroyer is here because it's a "mystical construct".

I give the victory to this armor.

However (if he is not in the game...and if you change the rule "no control technology") I give it to Douglock !

Yeah ! Nobody uses this guy...and you put him in your battle ! Great Job !

No moral...it's a beast... character UNDERRATED.

People if you don't know it...check it:

Magus Galactus level / earth buster

technarchy phalanx

A lot of time you can see

"In comics : Magic >>>>>>>>Tech"

Bullshit ! Transmode virus can change demons

S'ym

Of course...you don't change the rule...because it's your thread...;-)

So second place for...Stark !

I really wanted to put Luthor in, but I couldn't find much in the way of details about his armor.

@xdm
The Destroyer is mystical, but also robotic inside as I understand it.  I haven't gone back to check, but my memory is that Doom was working on its tech to make it work for him.  So it has some kind of tech components, yet is animated through magic.

He was beating Thor, but it's still the weakest version of the Destroyer, so while he's my guess for ultimate winner, I don't think he's too far out of everyone else's league.

Douglock is awesome and especially with Doug's current expanded powers, where he can read other people's moves, etc.  I actually think he still has a chance to win, even with no energy drain.  I haven't fully worked out in my mind who I think would win each step of the bracket yet.  I also think Iron Lad and Blue Beetle have a chance, but I need to think through the details more. For me, these brackets are more about the step-by-step than who actually wins the whole thing anyway.  Glad to know you've been enjoying them.  I know the obscurity keeps most people from commenting.  I don't really want them to be so obscure but when I'm trying to find 16 characters who fit the same theme, then some of them end up having to be kind of random.  Oh well :)

Stark technically can't take second place because he's on the Destroyer's side of the chart.

OK, here's my take:

ROUND 1:

Iron Man vs Booster Gold: I think this is pretty close, and in some ways I want to give it to Booster, since he has future tech. His force field is enough to take a punch from Doomsday. But I think Stark is a more serious and intense fighter, and his offensive tech is (as far as I know) more varied and probably more powerful. And I believe Booster is only around 20-ish tons, Iron Man is (I believe) way into class 100. Ultimately Iron Man takes it.

Douglock vs Doom-controller Destroyer: The Destroyer is the obvious choice. This incarnation was beating Thor before losing its power source. But it was far less powerful than previous incarnations. Warlock's race has incredible potential, since his dad Magus could tear apart a star, and if he could use his energy draining in this fight (which is not allowed according to the OP's rules), then he would take it for sure. But even without that, he can make some powerful weapons, must be pretty strong (although I don't know of any specific strength feats for him), and can easily shape and size change. Doug is also able to read movements and such, and has become a very good fighter. I'm honestly just going to go out on a limb and say that somehow Douglock wins this. I think Doug's "reading" skill, plus Warlock's power, may be what it takes to beat the Destroyer. Douglock can also absorb normal energy (not just life energy) and use it to amp his own power. Granted that Doom is no weakling when it comes to tactics himself. But they might be able to turn into a wrapping that covers the Destroyer so that he can't move, or possibly seep in the cracks and defeat Doom from the inside...I'm kind of intentionally being a devil's advocate against the more obvious winner, but I think it's possible.

Iron Patriot vs Guardian: I think the Iron Patriot armor is more versatile and higher tech than Guardian's.

Titanium Man vs Iron Monger: Iron Monger was pretty tough back in the day. I think he can beat even a more current Titanium Man, although perhaps not by much.

Crimson Dynamo vs Vindicator: Heather's geothermal-based powers may be enough to beat the Dynamo. He's fairly tough, and has a range of weapons, but I think her diversity is on a whole other level.

Iron Lad vs Noh-Varr: In some ways Noh-Varr's Kree tech should be on the same level as Iron Lad's future Earth tech. From what I've seen listed, Iron Lad isn't very strong (2 tons?!) although that seems silly. So Noh-Varr would be stronger and possibly faster. Noh-Varr is also a more skilled fighter and strategist. But I think Iron Lad's suit is more powerful without prep. If given prep, I might give this to Noh-Varr. But without any prep, I think Iron Lad would probably beat him. I'm very much on the edge with this fight.

Firepower vs Robotech VF-1: Their firepower is probably somewhat equivalent. Firepower probably has better durability. But I think the VF-1's superior maneuverability wins this fight.

War Machine vs Blue Beetle: This is kind of hard for me. Rhodey is more experienced and his suit has a lot of firepower. I'm not sure of Blue Beetle's true potential. I've read that it thinks it has the potential to take on Spectre, and in the new 52 (and this fight is pre-52) they are shown to be able to defeat whole planets. Ultimately I think Jaime takes this.

ROUND 2:

Iron Man vs Douglock: I'm giving this to Douglock. Actually I think Iron Man would be more of a challenge to them than the Destroyer, because Iron Man has far superior maneuverability and versatility. But the combination of Doug's reading abilities and Warlock's power (which I would think could theoretically duplicate Iron Man's armor) should be enough to win.

Iron Patriot vs Iron Monger: Iron Patriot is an upgraded version of the old Iron Man armor that defeated Iron Monger back in the day.

Vindicator vs Iron Lad: Iron Lad's future tech should give him the edge.

Robotech VF-1 vs Blue Beetle: Blue Beetle for sure.

ROUND 3:

Douglock vs Iron Patriot: If Douglock can beat Iron Man, they can beat Iron Patriot.

Iron Lad vs Blue Beetle: Kind of tough, but I think Blue Beetle can adapt to Iron Lad's tech. Iron Lad's armor is also adaptable though, and would give it a run for it's money.

ROUND 4:

Douglock vs Blue Beetle: I really don't know. Adaptable alien tech vs adaptable alien tech. Blue Beetle has shields which Warlock doesn't, as far as I know. I'm going to give Douglock the edge due to energy absorption (absorbing BB's energy blasts) and Doug's abilities.

As usual, I could go either way in a lot of these battles, and for some of them, I'm under-educated on the character and might change my mind if someone supplies more information.

ROUND 1:

Iron Man vs Booster Gold: Booster Gold ... he doesn't seem to be mainstream so I would take many would give this to IM. But his future tech should give him the slight edge over IM .. IMO.

Douglock vs Doom-controller Destroyer:

Giving this to douglock just because I am not familiar w/ doom controlling destroyer ... I will say this ... destroyer could probably win this ... didn't it beat thor and use it's hammer for some time?

Iron Patriot vs Guardian

Guardian wins this pretty easily.

Titanium Man vs Iron Monger: Not as familiar w/ these guys ... going w/ Titanium man due to speed and strength ... which seems to be superior to iron mongers from what I've read.

Crimson Dynamo vs Vindicator:

Vindicator owns this

Iron Lad vs Noh-Varr

Iron lad seems to have better tech and is much faster. I give this to him.

Firepower vs Robotech VF-1:

Robotech .. no idea why don't really know these guys that well.

War Machine vs Blue Beetle:

Blue beetle stomp IMO.

Round 2:

Booster gold vs douglock.

Going w/ booster gold here again due to tech ... and from what I recall he is pretty bad ass.

guardian vs. titanium man ... guardian should take this one pretty solid as well based on his feats.

vindicator vs. iron lad. This would be an okay fight depending on writer .. but based on what i've read iron lad should win this one w/ his tech speed etc.

robotech vs blue beetle. Blue wins this pretty easily.

Round 3

Booster gold vs. guardian ... Guardian would lose this .. depending on writer it would be a decent battle booster would push guardian aside like he is nothing.

iron lad vs. blue beetle. Going with blue beetle on this one ... this would be a good fight though

finals

booster gold vs. blue beetle ... got to give this to blue beetle in a tough fight.

NOTE: Just read other votes ... I'm not changing original votes .. but based on what I read I could see warlock going further ... but he has POTENTIAL ... and has done some pretty cool stuff but nothing that I remember to push him past booster. Yes his father is badass ... and he is badass .. I just don't recall reading anything where he did anything great. He .. well from what I remembered reading new mutants ... the dude you always wanted to just break out and become super awesome and powerful ... yet was always in the background doing damn near nothing.

I could totally agree with that. I wanted to go back and find some good Warlock feats but couldn't remember much specifically and was too lazy to go through a bunch of issues. He stalemated Impossible Man, if I remember!

Great thread. I could see Iron lad, Blue Beetle, Douglock or Bleeding Edge Iron Man winning. Probably Iron Lad or Blue Beetle.
