Which versions of the characters are we talking about here?
The most powerful version of Swamp Thing was pretty much powerful enough to slap down someone like the Spectre at full power, while someone like the DCnU version of Swamp Thing wouldn't really be able to beat most newer versions of Superman.
Also depends on the scenario Are they in character or not? Morals or no morals? Are they prepared for fighting each other or is it a random encounter? etc.
ST wasn't fighting back, and Superman was going all out. Supes was ineffective at hurting ST, then ST put Supes down with one touch. Then he told Supes that he was his friend, not his enemy (or something like that).

I remember Swamp Thing and the Phantom Stranger going to the Spectre for help when Abby was sent to hell in the Swamp Thing Annual. I remember them being a microscopic speck in the eye of the Spectre, literally. So what were these versions, and where can I read about them? I'm honestly curious.

Swamp Thing (at some point) had usurped every element in the entire universe. He had transcended to a level that was stated (on panel) to be enough to replace the Presence. In later issues he willingly gave all the power up.

As God Thing? When was he ever stated to be able to replace the Presence? And given that he abandoned the power because he feared Sargon would steal it, and the fact that Constantine stripped away his powers for an hour, I'd call that claim into question......
