Except that the motion for throwing a javelin and a hammer are completely different. Throwing a javelin is a linear motion, which means that Superman with his better speed would likely be able to throw it faster.
I honestly don't see how Thor is going to have any more difficulty throwing a Javelin over his hammer. Given how fast his fingers go, he could still do his twirl if he wants and toss it out of the solar system or something nonsensical like that.
Thor just has way better distance feats in regards to how fast and how far he's thrown things.

@isaac_clarke: Not sure what the scan is supposed to show that he can twirl a pom pom.
Hercules is a pom pom? It's an example of him being able to do what he does with his hammer with Hercules effortlessly. He tosses him into the clouds after he lets go, then they bro-fist destroying the area around them.
Do you have any proof that Mjolnir doesn't fly right after Thor lets it go is there some txt that says Mjolnir about a mile away decides to start flying.
He's been throwing the thing from his hands at alternating speeds for decades, he's not just doing the twirling motion around his body for show. Can the hammer fly to him at insane speeds to him touching it? Sure. That doesn't change the fact he's the one hurling it at things, it's not just some mental command to leave his hand - otherwise the entire process he does with it to throw it are not only redundant, but idiotic.
The limits to how far he can throw his hammer or how fast thus far aren't apparent. There isn't any indications that enchantments have limits in regard to distance. It's been chucked to the furthest end of the galaxy and back in under a minute - it has also dimension hopped to get to his hand.
