Apparently kryptonians have a small bit of a healing factor attached to them :P
His heatray vision is raw energy, that depletes his solar energy reserves. That would cost him the fight easily. He would basically be throwing his own power away at the Surfer to use right back against him. Which I have no doubt in my mind SBP would be dumb enough to do.
