Some info about Shrike: avatar of the Machine. His blades ignore durability, have casual time-travel (he is using it in combat). His body is made from 100% love (because Machine God is the troll apparently).

Special abilities: Farcasting, can teleport into almost any place of the universe and in any time. Can also teleport his blades inside someone's body. Can cast Merlin Sickness (this causes person to age backwards, losing all memories as person becomming more and more young). Can summon copies of himself from all timelines (1 second ago or from 1 second in future or from 1000 years ago or from parallel universes and so on) and they all have his combat and special abilities. Should Shrike main body be destroyed he can regenerate himself from any of his copies.

Intelligence: playing against Human God (near omnipotent god-like being, Shrike's goal is to force Human God to come back to his battle against Machine God) and so far Shrike is winning.

Combat speed: Here one of Hyperin Cantos main characters Kassad dodges laser when he uses battle armor:

-Kassad!

Kassad ducked as the laser beam crept past his shoulder, burning its way through the air like a slow fuse of ruby light. Kassad smelled ozone as it crackled past. Impossible. I've dodged a laser!

Here Shrike messing with Kassad just for fun. Shrike using his speed to appear in several places just to remind Kassad difference between them. Kassad can't even see him moving, all he can see is afterimages:

The Shrike stood between him and the tree...

A second Shrike was emerging from the tomb called the Sphinx. Farther down the valley, a Shrike stepped from the entrance to the Jade Tomb. Harsh Light glinted from spikes and razorwire as another emerged from the Obelish, half a klick away. Kassad ignored them and turned back toward the tree and its protector. A hundred Shrikes stood between Kassad and the tree. He blinked, and a hundred more appeared to his left. He looked behind him, and a legion of Shrikes stood as impassively as sculptures on the cold dunes and melted boulders of the desert... there were thousands of Shrikes in the hills and valleys now. Talons clicked open in unison; light glinted on tens of thousands of scalpel shaped blades and thorns. Kassad ignored the others and ran toward the Shrike he thought was the first he had seen.

  • Bloodlusted Shrike.

So how far can Shrike go?

Who is shrike?

Although if his blades ignore durability and he can teleport them inside his enemies then anyone short of a reality warper (or Flash) will most likely be beaten.

Main villain behind the scenes from Hyperion Cantos novels. AI or divine being or mix of both. It is not really clear. One of most awesome villains (if you read entire series, it just crazy how much stuff he did by doing VERY little. He is using time travel to calculate best result) in novels. Never sayed a word too, which is also awesome IMO.

The prerequisites for fighting the Shrike are:

A. Do you have timehax?

If the answer is no the result is: "Get ready to get dead."

(Secondary perquisite is "are you immune to physical damage?" if the answer is no, "Get ready to get dead")

Even if the answer is yes, it's got one of the best displays of offensive time manipulation shown in fiction.

The shrike could kill every living thing on earth in the time it would take for the light from a laser pointer to hit you from an inch away.

By walking up to them and stabbing them to death.

It's so fast that people with FTL reaction speeds who could react to things that haven't even happened yet couldn't even perceive it unless it wanted to be seen (because it's a sadistic dick). To them, it just appeared and reappeared anywhere it wanted to and murderized them at its leisure. While some people saw it tear through an army, it was already actually off in space and carving the fleet to pieces.

It doesn't have to know who to kill because it can just kill everyone. Hell the blades on the thing are essentially arbitrarily sharp; they can cut through substances and defenses that are not actually physically possible to go through. If you can die from physical damage, the shrike will kill you literally before the fight even begins and you won't even see it coming.

And the kicker? It can travel anywhere in time it wants to, it can timeclone itself as much as it wants to, and it can regenerate just about any damage through its timehax in addition to being ludicrously fast and having claws of "cut everything" *all over its body*.

Superman? He's gets impaled on the tree of pain before he's cognizant of what happens.

Thor? It cuts through mjolnir and then his face.

Hulk? He's in meat ribbons instantly.

Flash? The Shrike is 7fast9me for any but the most wanked out versions of him.

Silver Surfer? He does stand a chance depending on how high you peg him at, but you'd need to seriously cherry pick for Norrin to be able to time manipulate and react at the Shrike's level.

The difficulty with finding a match for the shrike is that most people don't have the speed and the time manipulation abilities to tango with it so you're left mostly with reality warpers (and generally ones the Shrike couldn't manage to kill before they got off their powers, which would exclude people like Odin; who is also going to get carved apart). People who rely on physical stuff are going to die horribly.

It's the most iconic villain of the Hyperion Cantos novel series.

It was functionally impossible to defeat with physical means and is rather infamous for being one of those things that routinely solos entire settings.

It's also very hard to find a match-up for it from outside its universe. Either it kills the other person without breaking a sweat or it gets stomped because the characters that can defeat that aren't native to its setting tend to be abstract level.

@guardian_of_gravity: i think it would be a stalemate with hulk and by stalemate hulk would be endlessly get cut into shreds efffortlessly withoy landing a single punch on him, but his regen would keep hi aganizingly alive, assuming shrike doesnt get tired and doesnt leave him alone.

what do you think about shrike vs sentry, or captain atom. the are the only people on marvel or dc earth that wont instantly die or endlessly get cut to shreds.

The Shrike's fully capable of just going back in time and killing Banner before he ever becomes Hulk or aging him into dust. Also; the Shrike has the ability to keep people with the ability to regenerate from even the smallest portion of them remaining dead. They developed a system called the cruciform that could resurrect a person if even the smallest portion of their Cruciform is left. When the Shrike attacked people with Cruciforms, the entirety of their Cruciforms withered and died when it stuck them like pigs.

The Sentry isn't fast enough to compete here, and neither is Atom. Not even against its base speed; never mind if it just slows time down to a crawl and sticks them on the tree of pain. Or you know; goes backwards in time and kills them before they gain their powers, because it can be everywhere and everywhen it wants to be simultaneously.

As for the weakest person that can beat Shrike, I'd probably give it to Vampire Hunter D. With the Akashic Records, D has access to every point in time for the entire multiverse. D could easily erase Shrike from history.

Not to mention D definitely has the speed, considering he crossed an infinite amount of distance pretty in a matter of seconds.

That's cool for him, he can enjoy being immobilized and incapacitated and in constant mind fraying agony on the tree of thorns until the heat death of the universe.

It's basically "get rekt" in spikey eldritch abomination form.

It's powerset of "too fast for the fucking flash to handle", "some of the best damn time manipulation in fiction", "cuts through anything whether it's an indestructible material or an invulnerable shield because screw you", "heals any damaged received because screw you", "can time travel and teleport wherever and whenever it wants", "ignores your healing factor, so get rekt regenerators", "ignores most conventional damage", "touching it anywhere cuts yourself on it", "can BFR you to be impaled, immobilized, and incapacitated on a tree of infinitely sharp blades", "can deage you out of existence with a pathogen or age you into dust", "a mean streak a light year wide and absolutely zero reasons to hold back unless it's deciding to play with it's victims" and "can timeclone itself infinity times over" is just too hax for most people to deal with.
