Undoubtedly, this would be a list of both Jedi and Sith, although i'm more of a bounty hunter man, myself.  Dash Rendar, Boba Fett, IG-88, Dengar.

In no order, because my lists are never in order:

Luke Skywalker
Palpatine
Darth Nihilus
Exar Kun
Naga Sadow
Darth Bane
Darth Caedus
Jedi Exile
Marka Ragnos
The Bedlam Spirits (I'm lumping them together)

Who is or isn't on this list occasionally varies, but certain people always remain.

Please note who is NOT on this list, because so many people get the misconception that they belong on it:

Mace Windu
Yoda
Kyle Katarn
Revan
Starkiller
Darth Vader
Obi-Wan
Darth Krayt

Yeah. Those guys don't make it to the top 10.

@JediXMan: I can more or less get behind your list, but in my opinion, Ragnos and the Exile lack the feats to be in the top ten, even though logically Ragnos should be there. One I always seem to forget is Kyp. He had some impressive feats. The writers originally planned for him to be more powerful than Luke but abandoned that idea once the prequels came out. Where do you think he would be?

@Silver2467:

Ragnos' feats are mentioned. What's mentioned by characters isn't always reliable, but he's consistently considered to be a powerful Sith Lord - even if he never appeared in the flesh before (for those that don't know, his earliest appearance in the timeline is appearing as a ghost at his own funeral)

The Exile.... well, I'm alone in this, but I believe the Exile to be the light - and controlled - version of Nihilus. But you're right; she lacks the feats to contend with others on the list.

Kyp is very powerful, this is true. But I'd put him around Kyle Katarn's level or perhaps a few notches higher (Kyle might be the better duelist, but I'm not sure on this).

That'd be one thing (... I know there's more but I'm drawing a blank at the moment. Must read through Jedi vs Sith and the Essential Atlas again).

In terms of Force abilities or Lightsaber skills? I agree if it's the former. The latter I'd give to Katarn, personally.

I don't like dealing in What Ifs. He didn't reach that level and we have no idea what he'd be like.

In no order I'd say...

Luke Skywalker
Palpatine
Exar Kun
Ulic Qel-Droma
Kyp Durron
Yoda
Darth Bane
Jacen Solo
Naga Sadow
Darth Nihilus

Honourable Mentions: Anakin Skywalker (Potential), Ben Skywalker (Potential), Revan, Mace Windu, Kyle Katarn.

My top ten in order:
1. Luke Skywalker
2. Darth Sidious
3. Darth Caedus
4. Darth Nihilus/Naga Sadow (tie, as far as I am concerned)
5. Darth Bane
6. Kyp Durron
7. Jaina Solo
8. Yoda
9. Exar Kun
10. Mace Windu

6-10 are more than debatable though.

Characters worth mentioning: Anakin Skywalker, Ben Skywalker, Mara Jade, Lumiya
Characters not worth mentioning: Revan, Starkiller, Malak, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Krayt, Cade Skywalker

Zayne is probably the very least powerful Force user; he's just lucky.

Because he can't compete with EU feats.

@BattleHeiz:

Aside from his strategic feats, he has no other feats.

He was asking about Revan. Revan was probably the most effective and well-planned Sith of his era. Nihilus was the most powerful of that era. "Of that/his era" being the key words.

No, Nihilus was not the most powerful. He was arguably in the top five most powerful though.

Sad to see Mace Windu getting underrated if we are taking EU into account, man was a beast in Shatterpoint.

Arguably the top natural Jedi of the era if we don't factor in Force abomination Anakin.

@AMS: Yoda was canonically a better swordsman than Windu, and given his power set, he may be able to defeat him too. Fact is, neither are up to par with some of the others. While I did include them in my top ten list, I can understand if others decided not to. There are plenty of contenders comparable with Windu and Yoda that people may decide to place instead.

@Silver2467: Hey, question.

What's up with current Star Wars?

Currently, and up-to-date, what's going on?

Is there still war? Do the Sith Rule? Do the Jedi rule? Is there peace?

I have always been curious, because I am not too up-to-date on Star Wars.

True

I'm patchy at best with Star Wars, I mean i've got alot of the comics and EU books and the WOTC RPG and know all the movies and shows and stuff but yeah I fully admit even with that my knowledge on the subject is very limited.

it's been interesting though learning new stuff via this thread!

@Silver2467: Also, agree with my opinion or disagree, and give me who you feel is the most important Jedi in history.

My opinion is that the most important Jedi in history has to be Qui-Gon Jinn. Simply because of the fact that without him, Anakin would never become Vader, no chosen one, no Jedi Purge, no Luke, no nothing. Nothing good or bad that came out of Anakin. Qui-Gon Jinn set everything in motion, and he was responsible for everything that happened and occured. I really think that without Qui-Gon Jinn, nothing would have happened. Who knows what would happen to the Republic? Who knows if Sidious would ever find a new apprentice? Who knows if the Galactic Empire would have ever been established? Who knows if Luke would ever come to be? We don't know, but it all happened due to Qui-Gon Jinn.

@mrbobdobalina: Depends on what era you are referring to. EU novels, comics, and video games are being made for all different time periods. For instance, currently, they are coming out with the third season for the Clone Wars show. Force Unleashed 2 came out recently (I think). In about a year (maybe more), we will have a Darth Plagueis novel, as well as a Nomi Sunrider novel. To my knowledge, the latest work in Luke's lifetime was Legacy of the Force. So, all of this is dependent on what time period you ask about.

Well, I mean, after everything takes place. The Clone Wars, Force Unleashed 2, after each and every single event known to Star Wars history occurs, what is currently happening with Star Wars? I mean, Clone Wars and Force Unleashed 2 is filling in gaps, but those gaps don't affect what has already happened. I am talking what is going on now in Star Wars? Is there still war? Peace? What's going on? Who is the Dark Lord of the Sith? Is Luke still alive? Are there Dark Jedi? Things like that. What is currently going on?

@mrbobdobalina: If you go by that, if you want to be honest, without the Exiles, there would have been no Sadow. Without Sadow, would have been no Freedon Nadd. Also without Sadow, Malgus's master would never have been. Without Nadd, there would have been no Exar Kun. Without Malgus's master, there would have been no Revan. Without Revan, there would have been no Bane. Without Bane, there would have been no Sidous. Without Sidious, there would have been no Vader. Without Vader, there would have been no Caedus. This does not even begin to address the Jedi who lead up to Qui-Gon. You can continue to go back farther and farther. Someone always lead to someone else. That being the case, I disagree.

Don't forget the Legacy period (by that I mean the far end of Legacy, not the beginning).

Also, the Force Unleashed comes out on October 26th.

That though still depends on what era. In the latest recorded part of Luke's life, no, there are no Sith as Caedus was just defeated. In the Legacy era, Krayt had a pseudo-Sith Order filled with Dark Jedi, that I believe are still active (only follow the Legacy era so well because of how much I dislike the majority of it).

@mrbobdobalina: G-Canon, you should know if you watched the movies. Sidious and Anakin died, and peace was restored.

C-Canon and EU are essentially the same thing. The only difference is that T-Canon (TV shows) is not included in C-Canon class. EU would still need an era though. EU just refers to everything outside of G-Canon Star Wars. So, there are literally thousands of years worth of history to choose from.

The New Essential Chronology is probably what you would be looking for. It has an overview of all of Star Wars history. You should read novels and comics though too.

@JediXMan: After learning a bit more about some of the older Sith Lords I've replaced Galen Marek with Naga Sadow. They're clearly on two different tiers in terms of raw power and skill.
