How could they even hurt each other??
Sandman VS. Clayface
I have done this battle before. I think it turned out as a tie. I think that if it was in an actual comic the two would fuse together and Spidey and Bats would team up to take done whatever name they give the monster they become.
My vote is for Sandman. I haven't read many (if any) Clayface Batman issues, but in the cartoon he had a hard time keeping himself together, especially if he exerted himself. I'm pretty sure Sandman will become larger if he can get more sand. Plus he could shred clayface up in a sand'nado.
Colt Python says:
"They both lose for being so powerful but not being able to beat Spider-man and Batman."
Haha! Very true.
@kraven: wich clayface?
Doubt they can hurt each other. No matter what kinda huge hammers, fists, clubs or maces they turn their hands into, there aint no way they can harm each other.
Think I'll just going to copy this every time we get this match-up
- Ultimate Clayface (Original Karlo) Wins with mild difficulty with either Poison touch or lightning blasts turning Sandman into glass
- Clayface (BTAS influenced Karlo) Too inconsistent to say. Depending on writer he sometimes has higher stats and fewer weaknesses than Sandman, but sometimes its the other way around unfortunately, nothing is set in stone.
- Pre-Crisis Clayface (Hagen) would stomp, turn himself into a Dinosaur with a cement mixer for a hand or something ridiculous.
- Post-Crisis (Hagen) would get stomped badly, going by Nightwing: Year One this is a dude in a Clayface shell.
- Clayface (Payne) Would get stomped, he's not maneuverable, fast or hardy enough and doesn't have morphing powers.
- Clayface (Fuller) Would stomp, turn herself into someone with psychic powers and attack his mind.
- Clayface (Russel) Catwoman enemy, would get stomped, probably the weakest shape-changing Clayface.
- Clayface (Williams) loses easily, was another generic, weak, shape-changing Clayface, didn't seem very versatile.
Clay face consists of wet clay right? Sandman dry sand.
Sorry don't know much about Sandman, but from what I saw in the movie(don't pounce more for saying that) becoming wet mud beats him so.....let physics do the rest?
@valdemocnij: wet beat drye so yeah he will in the end absorb him
Stalemate. Maybe Sandman through BFR, but I don't think either could put the other down through brute force.
Versions matter a lot. The version I know best is DCAU Clayface (Hagen) whose powers are similar to Sandman's. They also have similar weaknesses, namely, water causes either to lose cohesion. The big difference I can see is that Sandman can absorb normal sand and use it to become larger and more powerful. I don't think Clayface (this version anyway) can compete with that.
This is such an intriguing match-up...I can't beleive this thread doesn't have more posts.
I would say...stalemate (but leaning towards Clayface).
I think Clayface because he can absorb most of Sandman's mass while Sandman can't do the same to Clayface

How does this work for one but not the other? I know this is an old post but seriously how do they not simply become one? Sand is more of an absorbent really. This has actually happened to the Sandman when he took on Hydro-man. They became one big mess. Pretty much a fairly mindless monster. The Sandman has some experience with this. The next time he faced Hydro-man he knew to avoid this. I can see him keeping a distance and using his superior strength to trap Clayface.
no, if Clayface dries too much he loses and if Sandman gets too wet he loses. The two mixed and would lose. A tie.
This is a true stalemate here.
Interesting because they really cant hurt each other for good. A better match up would be ultimate sandman vs clayface. I think i read a comic where basil himself said i think “your flesh is pointless against my clay” or smth like that also he looks like clay. So two clay people is a better matchup than a playdoh man and a kinetic sand guy. Anyways sandman should win if he has more sand to access. If not than i think clayface could stick his sand particles together. And in the case of ultimate sandman. I say stalemate bc they both made of clay or at least imo ultimate sandman is made of clay based on visuals and quotes. I know other sources say sand but its imo. That is a stale mat
