I'm removing the possibility of Achilles being invulnerable apart from his heel.
Win by any means necessary.

@rogueshadow: Why?
@green_skaar: Reasons to believe Achilles is more skilled?
@deus: Achilles
Achilles.

Just watching the two movies? It's been a while, but I was more impressed with Achilles. He pretty much toyed with everyone he fought. Don't have a bunch of scans or in depth analysis, sorry bud.
@rolanddeschaingokughostrider: Reasons?
@gingerpenny: Reasons?
@deus: Maximus is a general of the Roman army, he defeated four of the army's best fighters with his hands bound, and killed an extremely skilled opponent with a bleeding lung....Maximus....FTW
Achilles... But if William Wallace were there, he'd destroy them with fireballs from his eyes and lightning bolts from his arse.
Maximus. He's got nothing to lose which is the most scariest of opponents.
Very rational argument you have there.
Not..

Yours as well...oh. Wait. You have none. Sorry about that. Thought you actually contributed to the thread. Never mind, then. Carry on.
Sorry about that.
Apology is noted. Acceptance is pending :)
@monsterstomp: Holding my breath. Not. :)
Achilles, he's more skilled, arguably faster (based on movie feats), and seems to have more experience although but I can't recall statements about either in that department.
Probably an even split between them, Achilles is slightly faster but Maximus can take some absurd punishment and still keep going, and skill between them is probably a toss up or if there is an edge it's slight. Also I have no idea why people are saying movie Achilles is invulnerable, he was hurt and killed by normal arrows when Paris shot him. Movie Achilles was just a very skilled fighter, so good that people thought he was invulnerable/a demi-god.
Tough call, but I'd say Achilles is more skilled and has more finesse in battle. Maximus on the other hand is more of a badass. His best combat feat, for me, is when he took on several "gladiators" at the same time prior to him going back to Rome. To be fair though, those gladiators were clearly afraid of him and he faced them one at a time, they didn't gang up on him.
Also, been done.
