This is a random encounter. Ronan has come to Earth under the assumption War Machine has stolen Kree technology. He encounters Rhodey at the West Coast Avengers old compound. Both are at current levels with current equipment.

I'll take Ronan. His durability is enough to take what War Machine has to dish and Ronan's Universal Weapon is much too versatile.

" That's probably enough durability to take what War Machine has now.  I mean, not just tank it but it isn't gonna ko him before he can beat Rhoddy with his matter manipulation.  I was thinking Ronan was a lot less tough than that.  I seem to remember him getting stomped on in an Annihilation or a War of Kings tie in but I'm not remembering who he was fighting. "

" FYI, Iron Man wasn't wearing his regular armor in that fight, and his suit was already damaged after fighting Shatterax in the previous issue, in combination to the fact that his nervous system was tied to the armor at the time, so the more damaged it was, the more his own health was deteriorating, as well. His regular armor (Neoclassic) was considerably more powerful than the model he used during Galactic Storm. Ronan would by no means shrug off a blast from the regular Iron Man suit of that era, let alone recent models like Extremis. "
