Give Rhino some credit, he used to be the enemy of the Hulk, has tagged Spidey and is actually stronger than Ares.

History
The son of Zeus and Hera, Ares was worshiped as the god of war in ancient Greece and Rome. Ares' dissatisfaction with Zeus' rule of Olympus began after Zeus' decree that worship of the Olympians should be allowed to die out.
On three times he attempted to conquer Olympus, twice in league with his uncle Hades, god of the Olympian underworld, but each time he has been thwarted through the efforts of his half-brother, Hercules (Heracles), and Hercules' allies. Ares has hated Hercules ever since he had killed Ares' monstrous Stymphalian birds in the days of ancient Greece.
In recent years, Ares tried to set two of Earth's nations at war with each other. The conflict threatened to spread over all of the Earth, until Ares was forced to put an end to it by his half-sister Venus, whom he has long sought in marriage, and the hero known as the Sub-Mariner. Venus and the Sub-Mariner extracted a pledge from Ares not to engage in further warmongering on Earth.
This has not stopped Ares from joining with Hera in order to torment Hercules personally, when the two gods killed Hercules' earthly romantic interest, Tyler Madison.
Ares was forced to help his fellow Olympians when his son Alexander was captured by Mikaboshi. With the help of Zeus, Alexander was freed, and the Kami assisted the Olympians against Mikaboshi.
Ares is a member of the Mighty Avengers.
During the World War Hulk series, Ares attempted to take down the Hulk himself, but was defeated and captured.

Too many writers, too many different ideas, its hard to rely on anything other than consistent feats. I don't think Ares has ever shown himself to be at Captain America or Batman's fighting level.@Matezoide said:

and yet with an exception of batman we are talking about marvel characters. hmmmmm, that makes sense. you rule dude.

There's been worse bumps in worse threads, go away if you don't like it.
the problem is,Ares does no feats to suggest he is a good fighter,on the majority of these fights,he just brawls his way through every opponent he fights,he doesnt dodge,he doesnt attacks weak-spots,he doesnt blocks, all he does is hit until the target is down" @Matezoide said:

besides,on his fight with Herc,Hercules was going easy on Ares, when he got poisoned and pissed off,Hercules literaly one-shotted Ares and when Ares fought Thor (and it is worth note it was a purely physical confront),he was massively amped up by Hades and still was defeated without much problems (meanwhile,Hercules has beaten Thor in a physical combat)
in another instance,Hercules overpowered Ares in 1 (or was it 2?) pages, the only reason he wasnt TKOed is because the Enchantress came to his aid
he also was effortless defeated by Ultron and IIRC,Namor
what i am trying to say is Ares`s has little to no decent feats,if he had skills,we would have seen then by now, even Superman showed more skill than Ares (using nerve strikes) and on just about every fight with a brick he has been in,he either got wrecked or had PIS on his side (such as his fight against A-Bomb,wich made absolutely no sense) and tried to overpower his way through
" @(((Prodigy))): Ares hasn't done anything to prove he is above 40 tons. "
Is This Joke ?
@Matezoide:
Ares stands toe to toe with Hercules (arguably one of the most experienced in hand to hand in the Marvel U), he has gone toe to toe with WWHulk... now, granted, he loses. But these are characters who greatly overpower Ares. The fact he can even hang with them, well, that is skill.
Based off feats, I would agree. Punisher has to have great combat showings in each of his appearances because, well, that's ALL he has in his arsenal. Combat feats. Without them he's just a regular Joe Blow with a bicep.
Ares has never had his own book and has only in recent years been used semi-regularily in books. His feat selection in general is rather slim. At this point, any feat comparison between him and an icon like Frank Castle is a little unfair. This said, one should at least take into account the fact he is the Greek God of War when determining whether or not the dude can fight on a par with folks like Frank Castle ... Frank shoots and lobs grenades better... but I ain't never seen him weild a battleaxe quite like Ares!
Oh, and, Ares does indeed curbstomp this one.
Again,Hercules doesnt shows skills during his fights,he merely overpowers his way through whoever he fights
Ares didnt go toe-to-toe with WWH,Ares tried to hit Hulk with his axe,got side-steped and one-shotted
as i said before,Ares only gave a good fight for Hercules once and for 3 pages, and 2 issues earlier,Herc one-shotted him,he didnt hang with then
The thing is,i am not saying Punisher is a hand-to-hand fighter than Ares because he has better feats,i am saying Punisher has best feats on Hand-to-Hand because Ares has none
we saw Frank beating up an angry bull with a piece of wood
we saw Frank holding his own against the likes of Daredevil in close-combat
we saw Frank matching Moon Knight in close combat
we saw Castle killing humans with one strike while unnarmed
we saw Castle holding his own against several super-humans while unnarmed
even unnarmed,Frank has proven that he is a beast,he has been through situations that proves he is an incridible fighter
Ares on the other hand, hasnt done anything like this,he didnt show skills on his fight with Hercules, heck,he hasnt even defeated a bunch of thugs while powerless,he hasnt peformed a nerve-strike,he hasnt evaded fast projectiles,he hasnt blocked punches from Herc (or anyone else he fought for that matter),he hasnt used strategy, his only plan is ``hit until it is down``,thats exactly how mediocre fighters like Wrecker and Mr.Hyde fights and thats exactly why he couldnt lay a hand on Ultron,WWH,Sentry or a pissed off Hercules
Ares has had almost 400 appearances, thats enough time for him to prove how skilled he is, if Richard Dragon,Karate Kid,Bronze Tiger,Sensei (many of then with less than 100 appearances) have proven to be much better fighters than Ares, one skill feat peformed by these guys in a single comic-book alone trumps every ``skill`` feat Ares has
heck, even the Enchantress has proven to be a competent fighter and she barely engages in hand-to-hand combat! while powerless she wrecked a few thugs with the out-most easy,Ares hasnt
his skills with an axe arent that good either and they dont have to be,Ares mostly fights bad fighters, all he has to do is swimg his axe and BAM! he hits,Hulk with a sword or Punisher with a knife have done similar feats
Ares would have a good ol' time slugging it out with Rhino. Definitely would give the win to Ares, considering he's had it out with powerhouses that outclass poor Rhino. Would be fun to watch, though.
@texasdeathmatch:
I agree with a lot of what you say concerning 'bumping' a post. I mean, why not? We should keep in mind, there are new people joining the Vine everyday. We are not supposed to start new threads about battles that have already been created. Fine. This rule alone means bumping needs to be held with far more tolerance by veterans of the Vine.
People are certainly not going to always read every single post in the 20+ pages prior before proferring their opinion. Nor should they have to. Just because a debate was opened and closed a year or two prior, does not mean newer members have nothing to say about said battle. I for one, wish to debate this particular battle. Doesn't matter that we repeat previous points made. We were not there... but we are here now, we have a voice, enjoy debating and want to be heard and to hear the opinions of others. Period.
If you've been doing this for years, it's normal you'll have a 'been there done it' attitude before too long. There are no good debates anymore 'yadda yadda yadda'. Sure, I can see how it all can get repeditive. For us 'newbies', it's fresh, exciting and new. In a year, I'll probably be as disgruntled as many other 10,000+ posters out there when I see the 100th "Brick 'X' versus Wolverine" thread created. But I won't arrogantly knock those who still find it fun and worth debating...
