I dont know about squashed... but disintegrated... yeah I think that was the case... but I am almost sure Darkseid reformed fairly quickly after The Spectre blasted him...

Makes no difference, in this battle, pc or not. It was stated, that it was not that Spectre didn't have the power to eradicate DS, it's that he was an essential, and that unless Spectre was willing to take his place, then he can't just eradicate someone like DS.
