Outside the Matrix, Morpheus doesn't have those abilities beyond martial arts. Even then, he's a normal human with normal human physicals. While Steve is bound by the Super Soldier Serum. Inside the Matrix, Morpheus has a chance, but if Steve goes in with the same mechanics he possesses outside the Matrix, then this is a closer fight. In the end, Steve has more experience and possibly combat training than Morpheus, and has even fought greater opponents - which I feel he would use to his advantage.
does cap know he's in the matrix and is he proficient at all at using that?
Unless he is a unplugged human, no. So he is just another plugged human then in this case.
If we go by what was shown and implied on screen, Morpheus is proficient in every martial art which puts him above Cap in skill, he's also taken a beating from Smith without dying so his durability is up there and he should be just as fast as Cap if not slightly faster. The shield would be a problem but I think Morpheus can take it 6/10.
IDk Cap's shield could be the game changer. I think to make this a better fight you go straight to H2H, no sword, no shield.

Smith was holding back. He needed Mopheus so he could hack into Zion.

It was still impressive.
@sirfizzwhizz: very interesting. Is this movie version Cap (as pictured) ,or 616 cannon Cap with all his experience?

figured as much, just making sure. I'm inclined to say Morpheus, with the very slight edge 6/10. But as I think more I say it really can go either way. Cap has the enhanced stats to take whatever Morpheus can dish out (remember he was no where near as talented in speed, skill set, or versatility as Neo) and retaliate in kind. Steve also has the heart and determination to really pull through. I'm gonna go with Steve........final answer.
Morpheus both Rounds. His skill, endurance, experience and combative knowledge is enough to counter any possible physical disadvantage that he may have in the comparison to Cap.
Morpheus can take round 2, definitely more skilled, Cap's durability is the only thing from allowing Morpheus to wreck him.
Going with Cap. His shield gives him a significant advantage in the first round. In Round 2, MCU Cap is no slouch when it comes to fighting, as evidenced by Captain America: The Winter Soldier, not to mention his superhuman stats and durability. Morpheus is a better fighter, but Cap has a superhuman advantage as well as being tactical and having a much larger will to win. Cap edges it out.
If Morpheus legs are strong enough to allow him to clear that huge gap one solid kick from this man should put Cap down
The speed and skill would be too much for Cap to overcome. Only way he would win is by physically tackling Morpheus and I doubt Morpheus would ever allow him to get his hands on him.
Again, I'm a Captain America guy...but....
Morpheus has downloaded all, or most martial arts ever recorded. Has a better working knowledge of the Matrix and its physics, and has fought in it countless times. I believe Steve could adapt to it reasonably quickly, but it would still be sort of like a very talented chicken fighting a duck in the water.
Cap could probably win the first round? I think?
Only his endurance, and will to win would keep him from being just curb stomped in the straight hand to hand. I wish that wasn't true, but...there you have it.
In the Matrix Morpheus stomps.

So ya know, the idea of the Matrix would mean Cap fights as well as he would outside it, simply due to the fact Cap would still have the super stats and such inside or outside as it mimics the real world utterly. Just saying.
@sirfizzwhizz: Hmm, I didn't know that (about the Matrix mimicking the real world utterly). Still...in the Matrix, Morpheus can do things that transcend real world physics, so I'm not sure how to apply this to the hand to hand fight.
Morpheus.
