People forget Korvac was not just an energy being that could play with any type of energy, cosmic, primordial, didn't matter, he was also a super-psychic, his mind being more powerful than his body. While Atom could manipulate/absorb any type of energy, Korvac has information and reserves of all types of energy, and if that was not enough, he would just mind-rape Atom. KORVAC.

Even the regular Captain Atom could defeat Michael Korvac with minor difficulties.

Michael Korvac's greatest feats are just speculations by comic book fans. They believe everything about him being more powerful than Thanos. Michael's energy output is far weaker than Captain Atom's original power levels. He's practically feats less without bias comic books statements by characters who were street levelers and don't know real power. Captain Atom's has created and destroyed and also absorbed an entire planet after being bored of it. What exactly has Michael Korvac shown in the comics that prove to be able to fight, much less defeat Captain Atom? Until the writers actually has written good high end feats for Michael Korvac, he would always remain as a lower mid-level character like Wonder Man, Thing, Absorbing Man, and Abomination!

A few things....

Atom created and destroyed a universe, not because he was bored of it, but because there was an evil version of himself that was being powered up Captain Atom's ability to warp the reality of the universe he created (which was really Atom's destroying and recreating the same universe in an instant to suit his wishes). That evil Captain Atom was trying to wrest control of his universe. So, just before they fought, Atom destroyed it.

Also, that universe wasn't created in normal space. It was created in the Quantum Field, where Atom gets his powers. When he fought Shadowstorm, he fell from an attack that "poisoned" his emotional state, and in an attempt to resist it, he involuntarily drove his soul into the Quantum Field. So while his soul was there, making and managing a universe, his unconscious physical body was still where Shadowstorm left it (somewhere in Africa). All in all, Captain Atom cannot create a universe within normal space. He's simply not that powerful, and has never displayed this level of power outside of the Quantum Field before.

As for where he stands against Michael Korvac, he's powerful enough to actually destroy a planet or "reduce it to smoldering cinder" as Surfer puts it. Atom couldn't survive an attack like that, and he has been taken down by attacks less powerful than that.
