Technically it is a lot faster than sound. They were playing rock paper scissors, spitting on each other, dodging kicks, thinking, doing a flip and landing. To do all this under a second is operating beyond anything Spider man has ever shown....far beyond it actually.

They have feats, when person A easily beat an opponent that used to be much stronger and faster than person A, that is a feat that shows us how person A became much stronger and faster than it use to be, and there is countless number of this feats in DB, DBZ. And all low showings can be explained by lowered power level, since they use their real strength, speed and power only during intensive fights.

You can see blurs of Kid Buu and SSj3 fighting, and even blurs from Super Buu with Gohan absorbed fighting against Super Vegito, but although both are supposed to be far more powerful, they never showed that kind of combat speed that Roshi and Krillin did. Still, it might just be PIS so that we can there's more action and stuff to see. Kind of like why Superman gets hit by attacks he should be able to dodge half the time.

the speed it takes light to travel from one object to our eyes is so fast that there is no delay from which the actual movement is being made and when we actually see it. Now doesnt physics basically answer the question about how fast he is. If he moved fast enough while fighting burter and jeice that we couldnt see him dodging the attacks that mean he moved faster than light could travel.
