So obviously all the laws of the universe (I don't know what to call them) are different in each universe. Examples being what is considered high-end magic or cosmic beings, effects of powerful characters have on the planet during fights, etc. So, if characters from the main universe of one comic were to go into the main universe of another comic, what would happen?

Examples:

  • Thor goes into DC universe, does he get amped to god (or champion/ hero) standards of that universe or does he stay exactly the same?

  • Superman goes into Marvel universe, does he get depowered to hero/ alien status of that universe or does he stay exactly the same?

Yeah they stay the same. I think people like Quasar and Green Lanterns would be depowered though.

Marvel has laws of Physics, DC doesn't. For example, lifting an ocean liner would cause it to break apart on itself instantly. Moving at light speed would be impossible for an object with any mass because it would have to be completely in energy form.

there's a massive lack of physics in both companies. i don't think one makes more sense than the other. being bit by a spider should cause a rash, not a DNA reconfiguration

The spider bite situation while far fetched has nothing to do with physics. LIfting an ocean liner would cause it collapse upon itself most times, just as 3 people moving a planet from orbit would destroy the planet.

@andre54: Biology and Chemistry have to be lax because all heroes with powers fall under this.

yeah true haha. whenever characters move around planets and lift mountains i just accept it for what it is. i just ignore the science in comic books and stuff like that even if it is laughably absurd :P

I think guys like Quasar and Capt. Atom would be the same in either universe because they draw on extra dimensional power sources (correct me if I'm wrong) that could theoretically be accessed form anywhere, whereas GL's power source is a physical object native to that universe.

But it's okay for the Silver Surfer to traverse galaxies on a surfboard and for Juggernaut to have infinite momentum?

It's better to say that science takes the backseat when it comes to comics.

Juggernaut uses magic(Magic works outside of scientific laws.). SS is comprised of Power cosmic his board is like alien tech that is a part of him. I am not being critical of DC I just am stating my perceived differences.

Actually, during the Genesis story a lot of characters lost their powers because they were separated from the Source (or something like that; I would need to re-read it to get the details), so DC characters might not be as consistent as you'd think.

One example: Marvel doesn't have "speed force" so Flash would be either slower or not worry about getting sucked into it and faster, not sure which?

@gav:

Flash can't be seperated from the speedforce. Well Wally can't. Or Wally from Kingdom come because he's IS the speed force, the fact that you put him in the DC Universe with powers means that it should exist. That DC/Marvel crossover didn't make much sense to me. They only took it away to give Quicksilver a chance.

it depends on the artist and writer?

Yeah in one of the cross over events Flash had trouble in the MU because he was separated from the Speed Force. I think it was Steel who created some special storage container for him so he could take out Quicksilver, though I assume this was all plot related since it wouldn't make any sense for him to become disconnected from the source, since he IS the source ( I think, it doesn't make much sense ).

DC tends to ignore more often the physics laws than Marvel... However, that gives DC the typical superior entity a Superhero should be in front of normal people...

But addressing to the question of the thread... Characters like Green Lantern, Flash and Juggernaut should get depowered or lost their powers completely due to their sources not existing in other comic universes...

There's nothing like the "emotional electromagnetic spectrum" in Marvel because it has a whole plot of religion behind it which can be linked with actions by The Presence...

Same happens with the Speedforce.. There's nothing like the Speedforce in Marvel. However, if we consider the Speedforce= Motion force, then Flash gets his powers back but with a twist...

As for Juggs, Cytorrak only exists in Marvel and Marvel alone... His gem would most likely not work in DC since he lacks from a source...

Humble question: Why this was bumped in the first place?

@kasino: how? He's lifting it the train, it doesn't weigh enough to collapse on itself.
