Given that he's fought the Martian god of fire himself, walked through a flamethrower and survived in an inferno while fighting his brother Malefic, the matchstick incident is PIS. Also, when did that happen? I recall nothing of the sort. Even in JLA he would practice by meditating in a room filled with flaming objects.

J'onn is MUCH stronger, can absorb materials from the environment to increase his fire resistance and can mindrape Firelord to death.

So no, it doesn't take PIS for J'onn to win. Take that matchstick crap somewhere else.

one positiive development i see with the whole new 52 is that we should finally be able to read what this weakness is...does it mess up his powers, is it just a psycological phobia type weakness or would fire just outright kill him like in finalcrisis

He is not so weak against fire that a matchstick could take him out. Firelord has absolutely nothing to counter J'onn's TP. NOTHING. The people who think a matchstick could beat him are complete morons. He died in Final Crisis because he was stabbed with the Spear of Destiny after being shot with literally hundreds of Libra's pyrokinetic darts that were aimed at restraining his TP (but still failed to do so).

Even with the weakness....fire lord lost to spiderman. I know I know...terrible writing

This. There were a lot of factors involved in his death; and a lot of things occurred during that scene that weren't seen in Final Crisis, but rather in the oneshot (Requiem, I believe it was called). J'onn didn't go down without a fight.

J'onn is not weak to physical fire. His death in Final Crisis was simply for the plot anyway. Grant Morrison has even said that the major deaths in Final Crisis were to show just how far behind us the Silver Age is

To think people think MM could ever, EVER beat fire lord, literally a being comprise of his one weakness, is patheticly ludicrus.

MM doesn't have a weakness to fire there is a implanted fear of fire within all Martians given to them by the Guardians. This was to keep them in check but once they get over that fear they become burning Martians aka Fernus.
