Mario vs Link

+both have all there gear( Mario gets all his mushrooms but can only use one at a time and can only use each mushroom once)

+Fight takes place at an empty grassland

+No bfr, both are bloodlusted and morals are off

+Who wins this showdown?

Link links Mario to a stomp.

Link. He can tank way more punishment with his shield(s), defensive magic and any health restoring items he may have in his bottles as well as fight effectively at any range.

This is a stomp if it is A Link to the Past Link or Majora's Mask Link.

Does mario have his ROG power ups? If so I see him winning 6/10, due to the Garnet Star.

Mario wins thanks to RPG stats.

Link is much faster & a better fighter.

Not to mention Mario dies by getting hit by a 4 foot tall turtle.

That was original Mario he has evolved since then and has a warehouse of power ups to choose from countless games allowing him to rain down meteor's and turn himself into indestructible metal, bypass all defenses and so on.

Mario is also much more agile, Link's maneuverability and speed is sluggish in comparison.

@Dextersinister: His metal ability is a special addition to his normal abilities. He doesn't have constant access to it, right?

Mario's agility is rather inconsistent. He usually can't avoid a simple swing of a sword very easily.

The metal body is a badge or something along those lines from his many RPG's.

I am going by his in game agility to jump incredibly high, bounce of wall's and run pretty fast vs Link's standard human agility. On experience Mario is still the same character from countless games where Link although the same person in spirit still only retains the memory of one.

and he also got to make cake with Peach wink wink.

Finding this rather hilarious, being its a parallel with Superman vs Batman only here...its not so completely one sided. But ah anyway, the two will have a hard time killing one another seeing as there isn't any limits on what they have other then Mario eating only one mushroom at a time...then it seems to be a stalemate. 
 
However, Link could use the 4Sword making 3 other copies of himself to help out(though Mario could do the same too with the Copy Flower). Mario's star only last a few seconds right? A minute at best before he has to use another one? So within that time gap, then Mario could be killed. The same could possibly happen to Link, however that is more difficult given he can survive some pretty hard stuff, and with all his gear he is very versatile and such. Not to mention Nyru's love, runs on magic while his Magic Armor runs on rupees....which is funny if you think about the names...but anyway ya, so this fight either goes on forever or one of them dies which I am leaning towards Mario on dying before Link.  
 
I mean unless Mario can use the Invincibility leaf, but that only comes out after Mario has died 5 times...so unless he has it then he can lose.

Mario has flip flopped in power a lot. Even if we give him all of his gear, his physical "stats" in his most recent games (Super Mario 3D land, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Super Mario Bros Wii U) aren't that impressive. Mario could use his power-ups but most of them cannot be "stacked" with each other, and most of the best ones are temperary. Switching between them will be when he's the most vulnerable.

Mario wins. Link can't recover and Mario has some of the best ledge guarding.

Also, link could spam bombos. Magic cape/nayru's love makes him invincible. Chatau Romani gives him infinite magic power for both above.

Depends entirely on what incarnation of the characters we are using. But Mario can jump two to three times his own height, so I can see him easily avoiding Link's sword attacks.

Mario's also strong enough to break bricks. And throw Bowser, King Bob-bomb, etc.

Mario would win this because he can use all his power ups that he has in the game so its Mario ftw

Mario's star is instakill I thought it was already clear from battles. Anything and everything it touches is a goner.

So yeah, Mario curbstomps. Sorry, but only way to beat Mario is speed, flight or a very high jumper.

Its game mechanics that mario shrinks when hit, but at most mario won't be doing much agaisnt link since link is better in combat has better powers to utilize than mario does. And lets face it, mario sucks at close combat in comparison to most VG characters.

Well, look at it like this. In SSBB, the Invincibility Star does not instantly KO an opponent; it just makes you not take damage. Mario is a fat plumber who runs away from walking mushrooms (ok, I would too). Link is a Master Swordsman (get it) who beats up huuuuge bosses and great mages. Mario's bosses are little kids. Link's are golden robots, invisible giants, skeleton fossils of dinosaurs that shoot fireballs, HIMSELF, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. Mario's main boss is a walking, talking turtle who kills itself in almost EVERY GAME. Link faces off against Vaati, the evil Wind Mage, the Great King of Evil Ganondorf, who is lets face it an overpowered powerhouse of a boss, who can transform and possess others. Mario fights the bosses on a circular pillar. Link's boss fights are ALL OVER. He has fought dragons on the top of a tower in a flying city, aquatic monsters on the ocean floor, his princess in the ruined throne room of his kingdom, inside cave systems, all the different temples, and inside a giant fish. He has even fought on top of a beating drum! Mario's tactical and puzzle-solving skills amount to jumping at any enemy. Link has done the Water Temple. As if you needed any more, he is a tactical master, making an analysis during battles and working out a plan even as he is fighting. Mario's powerups consist of getting high on mushrooms. Link has such a huge arsenal of bombs, bows, his Hook/Clawshot, his boomerang, his sniper rifle (seriously, twilight princess?), his Bomb Arrows, his different armour, his magic, teleporting, masks like the Bunny Hood which are permanent and do not fall off at the first hit like Mario's do. And then there is the famous Fierce Deity Mask. Enough said. Plus, he can use the Triforce to obliterate Mario if he really really needs to. AND THEN THERE ARE THE FAIRIES. GAME OVER.

I wouldn't say Link is better than Superman lol. Granted Link could hurt Supes if there was no speed blitzing of anything of the sort though given his magical arsenal.

I mean sure this is the equivalent of Superman vs Batman, only difference is that it isn't completely one sided. With as you put Mario being Superman and Link being Batman.

Actually I was refering to the Hishe super hero cafe when mario appeared. But I do agree that this is almost the equivalent or Superman vs Batman, Mario vs Sonic is another battle that could be the equivalent.
