Mario wins.

Mario has at least 3 ton strength

Durability that allows him to fall form several stories and not be affected by weather. It goes so far as to allow him to travel in space.

Mario can also survive burning, electrocution, freezing and more several times before dying.

What is considered standard gear for mario ... two white gloves? Or all his powerups he gets out of the ? blocks?

#7 Posted by PikminMania (4628 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

@sandiego008: Mario typically has his fire powers as his standard gear.

Continuing my previous post:

Mario and Link are at about the same strength level, but Mario seems faster and more durable. At the same time, Link is more tactical and has a variety of equipment. Link's main issue ist that Mario could probably dodge most of Link's equipment like his bombs or arrows, but Link can also block Mario's fire attacks. In the end, I think Mario takes it due to stronger attacks.

@sandiego008: Question could be asked about Link as well... anyways if Mario can use star he wins, giant shroom might give Link difficulty, but he should still be able to pull a victory. If Mario can't use star, Link wins.

#9 Posted by PikminMania (4628 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

@Soothing_Sounds:

Mario equipment seems to be his fire ability.

Link's is:

Master Sword, Mirror Shield, Gale Boomerang, Clawshot, Bombs, Bow and Arrow.

But Mario could dodge most of Link's weaponry, and mario seems to have stronger attacks, which could grant him the win.

#10 Posted by Soothing_Sounds (1098 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

@PikminMania: That's an agreeable argument, though i'll say this battle could go either way, Link's versatility could give mario trouble, and he can only dodge so much before finally getting hit a few times.

I am going with Link.

can the mirror shield reflect fire balls? Also, mario moving fast can get him in trouble ... at least w/ me behind the controls ... damn holes in mario games!!!

When Mario gets hurt does he shrink or do mushroom make him a giant?

#15 Posted by krilling (2481 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

Mario.

#16 Posted by Thor's hammmer (7184 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

Link. He stabs him up.

#17 Posted by Nefarious (16250 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

Link shoots an arrow into his chest.

Yes it can.

@spiderbat87 said:

He may shrink after a couple strong hits, but typically he stays in regular size due to many mushrooms.

@Nefarious said:

Mario can dodge cannonballs, so he can dodge most of Link's arrows. Even then, his durability will allow him to keep going if he gets shot in the chest.

#19 Posted by sandiego008 (3214 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

Based on many assumptions ... I give this to link

#20 Posted by Nefarious (16250 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio
@PikminMania: Those cannonballs move much slower than arrows. But, I agree about his durability.
#21 Posted by Obtrusive (1561 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

Even if mario gets fireballs and bunny ears link will still shred him up, link has far to much stuff that would be considered standard gear.

#22 Posted by Butcher_Pete (254 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

I'd put my money on Link... where is this Mario super durability coming from?

#23 Posted by PikminMania (4628 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

@Butcher_Pete: Mario survived in space, has fallen from several stories high and not gotten hurt, he has been electrocuted, burned, frozen, and more without dying. Also, Mario's much more agile than Link.

#24 Posted by Butcher_Pete (254 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

@PikminMania: I guess that really depends on the game huh? In Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy, sure he has a health bar and can get hit several times before dying... but then you play Super Mario World where a stray turtle shell to the kneecap can take you out with one hit. Whereas Link has consistently had great durability, being able to take several hits from fireballs, being frozen, and so forth. Not to mention Link has much more equipment, including stuff like Nayru's Love, which gives him complete invulnerability, though I guess that wouldn't count as standard equipment.

#25 Posted by PikminMania (4628 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

@Butcher_Pete: Link's standard equipment is basically the stuff in Super Smash Bros.

I usually think of the recent stuff as normal.

#26 Posted by Butcher_Pete (254 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

@PikminMania: Most recent would be Super Mario 3D Land or whatever it's called then, wouldn't it? I could be wrong, but I dont think you have a health bar in that game.

#27 Posted by Soothing_Sounds (1098 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

@Butcher_Pete: Of course mario's durability without a healthbar is a two sided blade, yes he can get hit by a turtle and die, but he can also survive high magic, extreme heats, and the sun, and only go down a notch in power. Same with Mario games that have health bars, but still.

#28 Posted by sesquipedalophobe (4464 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

Considering how Link has twenty hearts at his peak and he commands the winds, Mario's 99up trick and butt stomp won't do a daaaaamn thing.

#29 Posted by Jayso4201 (418 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

No way, Mario gets hit 3 times max and he's done not the same for Link,

Thank you for clearing that up for the others.

Link doesn't control the winds, he isn't freakin' Storm. Also, Mario's kicks have destroyed castles, villains 20x bigger than him, meteors surrounded by energy, and so much more.

Mario is also much more agile than Link, which could help. Like I said, the main reason I see Mario winning is his agility and the fact that his attacks are more usually more powerful than Link's.

What if link uses triforce slash

Link.

His shield is more than strong enough to take fireballs.

He can take more than hits without dying.

He was way more tools at his disposal.

what is standard gear for Link anyways??  The man walks around with a whole storage facility in his pocket in most games

#36 Posted by johnnyism (87 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

This battle ends with Link falling into a fire pit after Mario collapses the bridge, soon followed by Mario being disappointed after discovering that the Princess was indeed in a different castle.

Mario easily, he's the Mushroom Kingdoms Batman

I'd say standard is whatever they had in Super Smash Bro's

#40 Posted by Kovak (748 posts) - 6 months, 7 days ago - Show Bio

Got to go with Link. Link has way too much stuff considered to be standard gear. The dude's a freaking warehouse.

I would say the items you consistently see in all of his games.

Master sword, Boomerang, Hyrule shield, bombs, hookshot, bow, light arrows, fire arrows, ice arrows, umm.... That's all I can think of right now.
#42 Edited by Dextersinister (2914 posts) - 6 months, 7 days ago - Show Bio

@Kovak: Bombs, sword, shield and boomerang are the only things recognizable enough to be considered standard. Possibly the slingshot as well. Anything restricted to one game wouldn't make sense as standard gear.Forgot about the bow.

Standard gear for Mario would be hammer, fire flowers and a few mushrooms.

#43 Posted by SupremeHyperion (1093 posts) - 6 months, 7 days ago - Show Bio

Mario is the dumbest character in gaming history, Link beats him with the handle of his sword before Mario can eat any mushrooms.

All his different arrows. Got to remember he doesn't just have normal arrows.

Clawshot/Longshot as well. If Mario's giving him trouble he could get out of there.

Personally, I'd consider what he has in OoT to be standard gear, mainly because that's my favourite game.
