Battle of the rip offs!

Sorry, just feeling a bit antagonistic.

Mar-Vell is a rip off? Maybe in name.....?

1:Mar-Vell isn't a rip-off.

2,Sentry wins this(except against Earth X Mar-vell).

you have to know that dc rips off as many characters as marvel does. they have always had the same writers going back and forth between companies so of course it happens.

Captain Marvel...isn't a rip off of Captain Marvel? How? I don't care if his name isn't really Marvel that's whats on the comic covers.

Can you name a few? I realise that they share writers but Captain Marvel (Marvel comics) is blatantly ripping off the Fawcett Comics/DC one. And Sentry is a blatant rip off of Superman. Alot of people dislike Supes so I duno why they'd copy him.

Ah yes, in character he isn't a rip off at all, just the name forced DC to call their Captain Marvel comics "Shazam!" and it's kinda annoying.

#13 Posted by Sparda (15795 posts) - - Show Bio

Doomsday: Hulk rip-off.

Imperiex: Galactus rip-off.

Pantha: Tigra rip-off.

And DC made their own Gods like Marvel

They both ripoff eachother. And I am aware of Thanos=Darkseid, so don't bother.

actually Darkseid appeared before Thanos

#16 Posted by Liverwurst (881 posts) - - Show Bio

When was Darkseid's 1st appearance?

#17 Posted by Terminal Velocity (583 posts) - - Show Bio

I'd say Doomsday is more of a Borg from Star Trek rip off than Hulk rip off, you know if you hit him with something he comes back resistant to it.

#18 Posted by Supreme Marvel (11271 posts) - - Show Bio

Liverwurst says:

1970

and Thanos was 1973. three whole years a ahead

I agree on Imperiex and Pantha but like I said, I think Doomsday is more of a rip off of the borg from Star Trek.

I hate it when any company rips off another, its annoying. I prefer fresh ideas or old characters, not rip offs.

They both rip eachother off terribly, and the rip-off is never as good as the original. Except maybe Thanos.....he's pretty cool.

GOD YES! I FKING HATE FAMILY GUY! It's always the same freaking joke, "The time I_" and then a flashback. God! It's not bad enough they've insulted Simpsons before, but now he made a crappy rip-off!? Fk Seth Mcfarlane. I hope Groening sues him. Go to youtube.com, type "Family Guy Steals From The Simpsons", and watch part 1. Stupid Mcfarlane.....

#27 Posted by Supreme Marvel (11271 posts) - - Show Bio

like Sparda said, not many things are better than the original, but Family Guy beats the shit out of Simpsons

#28 Posted by Terminal Velocity (583 posts) - - Show Bio

I've laughed like 8 times at the Simpsons over watching it like my whole life. I've laughed probably over 1000 times at Family Guy.

I guess marvel just lets DC (Dork Comics) come up with a character Idea, then vastly improves the character and writes better stories around their better characters. As evidenced by their dominating the comics sales market. These are 2007 figures : Marvel leads by 42% to 30% in dollar share, and 48% to 32% in unit share. EAT IT DC!!

The fine print: This post is a just a counter attack aimed at Terminal Velocity and in no way should be read by or taken seriously by any other DC fan.

well at the moment i've been reading a lot of DC and some Marvel, i can honestly say that i was more entertained by the DC comics i red more than the Marvel ones i have seen done before. so they don't exactly improve on stories.

LMAO!!! I agree completely and feel that Marvel own original characters are still incredible and cool like Spidey, the X-Men, Captain American, ect.

@Lord Shazam: Your name is a DC character. Your opinion isn't very surprising.

seen my picture, Captain Britain and Psylocke, Marvel characters. and am not saying it because i like DC more am saying it because i seen it done before, just with different characters.

Have you ever seen something like 52?

everyone has different opinions and what (valkaad) said was implying that DC don't write good stories. and Marvel don't improve on characters and stories. so i mentioned 52, a comic that came out ever week for a whole year, and i was hooked on them all. i'd never seen anything like that from Marvel. so there you go original.

I'm not sure for how long it came out, but a story I can compare that to is the Earth X series. Fantastic writing. I recommend it.

#46 Posted by Supreme Marvel (11271 posts) - - Show Bio

and 52 wasn't even centred around main characters like Superman, Batman, Wonder Women, Martain Manhunter, Flash or the main Green Lanterns. just people like Question, Booster Gold, Steel and a few more, that people wouldn't know about. i read New X-men i like it but they need to focus on some different characters besides Hellion and X-23. i like them but i wont to see more of other characters as well.

#47 Posted by Supreme Marvel (11271 posts) - - Show Bio

Kingdom Come, without a doubt the best comic book i have read. the main thing is about Hope and not Good vs Evil.

What other good written comics do Marvel have?

Earth X was centered around the entire universe. Mostly on the celestials and Captain Mar-Vell. But the others were barely even noticed like Strange, Spidey, Cap, and Ironman. IMO, Earth X was fantastic writing and I've never seen anything like it.

#49 Posted by Supreme Marvel (11271 posts) - - Show Bio

Secret Wars. House Of M. Along with a few others I can't recall at 3am. As for your second question, Earth X was a series that carried on for about 5 TPB's. Earth X. 2 Universe X TPB's, and the 2 Paradise X TPB's. Each TPB contains about 15 or more normal sized comic books.
