@Illuminatus: @yumyumbubblegum: It's pretty simple. They can prepare for the encounter before the battle, but when it's time they meet at the location and start it. When the battle starts, reaction time comes into play. For example, just because Batman made a super-mega-awesome batarang that defeats you on contact, doesn't mean he doesn't still have to throw it at you when the match starts. Not before.
When the match starts, Magneto will strip Reed of his weapon/gadgets and destroy him.

Richards would later claim that he let Magneto win, but i don't know. he did scratch up the work out room pretty good, and richards did nothing about it. Not to mention, what would be the point of letting magneto use the FF to rob a bank? He claims it was all a part of his plan, but i think he had a hang over or something, or maybe popped a blood vessel when the door-bell Klaxon blared, and it took him a while to figure it all out, then lied to cover for himself.
Magneto wins all rounds but round 2 would be made to work for his win perhaps. Don't people know he can lift the building off its foundation with all of Richards toys in it and
a) drop it on FF
b) crush the building and all of its contents including Richards
you get the idea.
Like I said, if Richards was the answer to Magneto, The X-Men and Avengers would have summoned him LONG time ago.
Of course Reed wins with prep. But without it, and if he is not expecting Magneto, Magneto wins with relative ease. Electromagnetically manipulate Reeds atoms would be a painful way. But that's not all... If Magneto decides Reed not feel pain, Magneto can electromagnetically wipe Reeds thoughts since brains function electronically via electric pulses.
Bach is a genius as well that wont help him against the guy who invents inter dimensional travel and power nullification fields and guns. Though wood will not help Mags has developed his power enough to grab onto your blood and even effect non-ferrous metal such as adamantium or aluminum. He can manipulate both ferrous and non-ferrous metals: Magneto is a mutant with the power to manipulate electromagnetic fields to achieve a wide range of effects. The primary application of his power is control over magnetism and the manipulation of ferrous and nonferrous metal. Now reed could just figure out a way to do something like disrupt EM fields or something comic book sciencey insanity like a black hole gun , that would screw up any power level mags has ever demonstrated. Then though one must question morals and or if one reeds invention works as intended. None the less mags intelligence but pretty much a handful of guys are in reeds caliber and mags is not on that list
