Sling Shot says:

"I think so. But as far as strength of character Mags got him beat. Hence all the books Mags is in. Which is to bad cuz Quasar had alot going on in the early 90's now he's a spaceage has been. But most cosmic characters have been negleced fo the last decade. Annihilation I feel is their way of trying to rectify that neglect. but I don't think they achieved it."

For me there is a point when a character gets to powerful and no long as interesting.

I can understand that for you. But if the writing keeps up with the power level of the character than they're still viable to me. The issue with that is imagination and experience. Not to many writers out their seem capable of maintaining a viable fresh story line for a galactic character probably because they can't relate.

Being able to relate to the character is important for the writer and the read. Somethimes that only can make or break a comic.

Cause wearing a big metal helmet makes for good hair. ;)

Annihilation was damn good, and it was easier to follow than either Civil War or Infinite Crisis. Stupid crossovers.

Quasar suffered from low sales not because he was over-powered, but because despite looking like a product of the 70's, he got his own comic right at the beginning of the 90's (You know, when every other character at Marvel had an mysterious past and would kill their opponent at the drop of a hat, or otherwise was some sort of carbon copy of Wolverine.) and Quasar was pretty much a pacifist.

His M.O. typically would be to capture an opponent in an energy bubble and/or siphon off their energy... only when he desperate did he manifest a construct to fight with (nunchucks for example). What typical comic fan do you know that would support who didn't solve every problem he had with his fist/claws/swords/guns... etc...

In the area of power, yes, Quasar outclasses Mags, the Q-bands link to an entire universe of potential energy. Nevermind the fact that Quaze doesn't carry a whole lot of polarized metal for Mags to effect. For argument's sake we'll say that the Q-bands can be effected by Mags, that doesn't stop Quaze from throwing Mags into a black hole.

I agree Annhilation was good. But doesn't make up for the decade or so of cosmic neglect and more specifically the neglect of Quasar. Who of which I was a huge fan when he came out.

By the way nice break down of his contrasts with the Wolvie clones of the 90's. Every little bit helps.

Quasar

Quasar is just a more powerful character.

Quasar easy. He can control all energy except magic and darkforce. Also he controls the environment within his force bubble. Mags has no chance here
